Coming to Atlanta for Memorial Day - can I get some food recs?
Greetings from the West Coast! We are visiting my sister and her boyfriend in Atlanta this weekend (SO excited) and I was hoping to find out if there are any really great food experiences to have there. My sister is in grad school, so nothing super expensive, but we'd really love something unusual or really great about the South to eat.
She lives near GT, but we're mobile.
We're planning on CNN, World of Coca-Cola and a hike to some waterfalls. We've done Stone Mountain before. Not terribly interested in the acquarium. Anything else we should consider? Special events for Memorial Day weekend?
Re: Coming to Atlanta for Memorial Day - can I get some food recs?
eh, I think you have a lot going on planned, but check out the AJC's event's page. They'll list everything that's planned around town for the holiday weekend.
And apparently its Mary Mac's for the win on the $$MM page!

Breakfast down here is the BEST.
Thumbs Up Diner has a nice breakfast, they are located in the MLK Historic District. http://www.thumbsupdiner.com/ I usually get the Catfish and Eggs.
We live intown, and always take people to Dakota Blue for brunch. http://www.dakotabluegrantpark.com/ They have very very reasonable prices and consistent service. DH loves the Bananna Bourdon Pancakes, I love the Crab Cakes Benidict, their Jalepeno Cheese grits are good as well.
Regarding things to do I usually get an email from someone at work on Thursdays, feel free to PM me an I can forward what I am emailed. So far I am only aware of the following two events :
At The Georgia Aquarium 225 Baker St.
-Friday, May 21 and every Friday through September 24
Call 404-581-4000 or visit www.georgiaaquarium.org for more information
Jazz Journeys is sure to lighten your mood with the sounds of upbeat, cool tempos and smooth melodic jazz tunes as you take in the sights of some of nature's most alluring aquatic animals. Held every Friday night from May until September, guests will enjoy the exhibits in a unique atmosphere as they wander the Aquarium?s galleries and snack on a special Jazz Bites Menu created by Wolfgang Puck Catering. Jazz Journeys is free with the purchase of a General Admission ticket. This week?s performer is Bob Baldwin.

I hope you have a great time here!!
You already know my recommendations. If you want something good and cheap, I'd hit EATS on Ponce de Leon.
South City Kitchen has good upscale southern food at about $25/person if you don't get alcohol and split an appetizer. I think there is a review in my bio.
