To have a tree removed? I live in the North East and we had a terrible storm that downed a ton of trees back in March. Our property was ok, probably because we had had about 7 smaller trees taken down and all of the trees pruned back the previous summer. In the aftermath now, we've been sort of evaluating our trees and decided to take one more tree down. It would give us a lot of light on some grass that won't grow in the shade, and also, god-forbid it ever fell, it would crash right thru our bedroom. All that work we had done last summer, the company (who we use for other things - landscaping and such) charged us $3500, When we asked him for a quote for this one tree, he told us $2000 (not including stump removal). For one tree? It seems like it's price gouging now that so many people in the area are needing tree work. Am I crazy and is this a decent price? It is a tall maple tree (maybe 40 feet high with a medium-sized width trunk.
TIA!
Re: What did it cost you. . .
Tree removal is expensive, usually if you remove multiple trees at once you can get a price break. We recently had 2 large trees (85+ ft) and with stump grinding the cost came out to less than your quote for one tree. But I live in the PNW...
If the quote seems high, say something, even if you don't know what you're talking about!
When I quote prices, I have NO IDEA what prices the customer has in mind or what they have heard from other companies. If they speak up, I am delighted to explain my price relative to my education and credentials. If someone can't defend their prices, don't hire them.
IDK what the going rate is where you live, but get a couple of quotes. Above all, make SURE the company is licensed and insured. Tree work is the most dangerous job (according to OSHA) and tree removal is the highest risk. If you hire someone to do a job for which they are unqualified and uninsured, and they get hurt, YOU are liable.
