Any hotel recs in the downtown area or somewhere with easy access to downtown? We won't have a car. Also, what are some must dos if we're there for only a couple days? TIA!
Re: SEA ladies
Ooh! Watching this thread for ideas...
I have to work in downtown Seattle for 10 days in October (our annual convention is coming to town) and will be bring my mom and Libby. I'll be working 14-16 hours/day but they'll be out an about...at least I hope they will. I am trying to get a list together of baby-friendly stuff for them to do...Libby will be nearly 9 months old..

Is this your first trip? I usually just make sure visitors see the market because they all want to see fish get tossed. if it's a nice day I think it's fun to take the ferry to Bainbridge Island and browse around - get iced cream from Mora's. coming back into the city by water always gets rave reviews from OOT visitors. I will have to come back to post about other things to do.
before christmas I had to stay overnight in Seattle quite often for work and they put me up at the Hyatt Olive 8, it was very nice. I don't remember how much it was but it must have been on the lower end of the downtown hotel prices since my employer usually tries to be thrifty. If possibly I would try to stay downtown if this is a touristy trip just because there is so much you can walk to, and it seems like the public transport and taxi options would be easiest if you were already downtown.
lori - the children's museum, the aquarium, the locks, and woodland park zoo are kid favorites, but I'm not sure how much a 9mo would get out of them...
We've both been before but B was in high school and I've only been there for layovers when I was a flight attendant. I definitely wanna do Pike Place Market, even though we've both been there. I just LOVE it. The ferry sounds fun, too.
I really love Seattle. It's so beautiful! Wish we could stay longer - it's just a little side trip. We're going on an Alaska cruise RT out of SEA.
I'll look up that hotel on tripadvisor. Thanks!
oh fun! we always see the cruise ships and say we should go, my friends somehow got a last minute deal a couple of summers ago and literally left 2 days after they booked. You will have to let me know how you like it.
ooh, can't wait to hear about the cruise! i LOVED alaska
i haven't stayed in either of these, but I would look at hotel max and hotel 1000 also - both boutique hotels, hotel 1000 is more expensive, but hotel max looks like they have pretty reasonable rates - looks like there's a discount for booking online and pre-paying.
the lake union and lake washington cruise is interesting and fun (link) - my family liked this a lot when they visited. you might need to cab to the dock though.
if you're in to architecture or books or libraries, the seattle public library is really interesting to wander around in. (read more)
+1 to the ferry to bainbridge - i think it's free if you're a walk-on passenger, and it leaves from downtown. pretty ride, especially if it's a nice day out. and bainbridge is cute.
hrm...it's a bit tougher without a car - all my standards require driving! definitely pike place market - eat your way through the market, wander around the waterfront. you could maybe take the water taxi (if it's running) to alki. great views, fun to walk around along the water there.
there's also the underground tour (link) if you're interested in hearing more about the history of seattle. some ppl love the tour and think it's hilarious, i thought it was okay - definitely a different view of the city, and worth doing once.
there's the sculpture park, which is within walking distance on the north end of downtown (link). then you can keep walking along the water that way
basically, there's lots to see and enjoy if you want to just walk around and explore!
downtown really isn't that big - you can walk all of it if you want! and the shopping district is right there too. there's a range of stores, from nordstrom rack to betsey johnson
oh, and in the International District (just south of downtown), there's a Kinokuniya - bookstore from Japan that is always fun to browse in. they have stationery, cards, etc too. It's in Uwajimaya, which has a ton of japanese imports - mostly food (lots of yummy snacks!), but some other stuff too. not sure if you have good access to japanese stuff in vegas, but you might enjoy checking it out?
...I'll let you know if I think of anything else!
eta: the bus system is very unfriendly to visitors (in that it's hard to figure out which busses go where if you're not familiar, signs aren't great, etc), but buses are free downtown! (in the "ride-free zone" - marked clearly on bus maps) easiest thing to do is to hop in the bus tunnel - all the busses going through the tunnel stop at every stop, so you don't need to worry about which one to get on. that'd be an easy way to get to the International District, for example, since there's a stop right there - if you don't feel like walking. you could also try our fancy new light rail (which i haven't actually been on!) - it also goes through the bus tunnel.
I'm in the Seattle area. We have a local board that put together a list of things to do and places to go. One SEA nestie attached it to her bio. Her nestie name is gakester8. Hopefully, this clicky will take you there:

I love Kenmore Air! It is so amazingly beautiful to see the area from the sky.
We had a question like yours on the SEA board recently. Here is the link

Once you narrow it down, let me know what questions you have. I'm happy to help.

Let me know if you need me to pull together some baby things. I can bring them to you at your hotel. That way, you won't have to pack so much.

We are too! What cruiseline are you going on?
I lived in Seattle for about 8 years. There is definitely a lot to do. The girls hit on some of the biggies (pike place, children's museum, seattle center/space needle, ballard locks, bainbridge island). Since you have a car now, if you want to take a road trip, I've heard the San Juan Islands are fun.
We took a cruise to Alaska last summer. What ship are you on? I have a ton of notes for activites and the ship we were on.
You've already gotten great advice but I'll mention a few of my favorite places in Seattle: the arboretum, the Seattle Art Museum, Alki Beach, Pike Place, Pioneer Square, the International District, Green Lake, Gasworks, Fremont, and Discovery Park. If you like to drive and take in the scenery, Capitol Hill and Queen Anne have beautiful historical homes and Magnolia Blvd has gorgeous views and a walking path. For food, I miss Top Pot Doughnuts, ***'s, Paseo and Ivar's Salmon House. There are a ton of great restaurants and bars in Seattle but these are the ones I try to go to everytime I'm home.
If you have time, I recommend driving to Snoqualmie Falls or Mount. St. Helens. Last Fall, my dad and I caught a ferry to the Olympic Penninsula and drove up to Hurricane RIdge. It was beautiful. Point Defiance Park & Zoo is also a nice day trip as is the Museum of Glass in Tacoma.
Have fun!
I lived right by a top pot when I was studying for the bar. that was trouble. We got to the Salmon House for brunch before the first home game of the UW football season and try to make it there for happy hour on the deck a couple of times during the summer.
I love Cactus for margaritas like another PP mentioned.
A couple of weekends ago we were bored and actually drove up to Seattle just to go to Red Mill Burger for a burger and PB&Banana milkshake.
the first few times the ILs came out to see DH's new home we did the standard Seattle/Mt. Rainier stuff but last summer (and this summer) I started taking them to stuff on the Peninsula. They love it. We usually drive up Mt. Walker (I prefer hiking up but DH's family would NOT be into that). On a clear day you can see Seattle and on a super clear day (especially during the winter when there is less smog) you can see all the way to Mt. St. Helens. Hopefully this summer we can fit in a trip to the San Jauns or at least Deception Pass/Whidbey Island.
