Frustrated!

I got a call today from someone in human resources at the hospital I had my interview at.  She said that they have tried contacting my 3rd reference listed--which is a teacher of mine--and has not heard a response yet.  I asked this teacher if I could use her as a reference before I had the interview, so she knows I put her down.  I put down her e-mail and her office phone number, which is what she said to use.  And the hospital said they left a couple messages with her and emailed her--and nothing.

School is out now, but she said they tried emailing at the end of last week--and school ended Friday, so that should've gotten to her at least!  I tried e-mailing her today and also left her a message.

I think I have her cell phone number at home somewhere, because this teacher is going to be my clinical instructor starting in 2 weeks when we start clinicals, and I'm pretty sure she gave us her cell number in case we can't make clinicals that day or something.

Should I wait until I get home to look for that, or try to find another reference?  Will it look bad if I try to find another reference?  I have another teacher I could email/call, but it might be the same situation if no one's at school right now.  I hope this doesn't ruin me getting the internship!

Re: Frustrated!

  • I would try to get in contact with her, but it wouldn't hurt to give them another reference and just tell them that you're not sure if she's why she's not responding and give them another reference just in case they'd like to try them instead. I don't think it would look bad to find another reference. You might want to explain that she's a teacher and since school's just let out that might be why she hasn't responded.
  • Well, my other reference I was thinking of would be a teacher too, so I'm nervous I won't be able to get a hold of him either. I already gave them my two current supervisors at my two jobs, and one of my jobs I've had for 6 years, right out of college, so I don't know of anyone else I'd put?  Hmmm.

  • I would give them another reference. That doesn't look bad at all. It's not your fault she's not responding...

I agree, I would give another reference.  If the other reference is a teacher, when you talk to them just ask for a definite contact they can be reached at, since school is out now...
