Ummmm - LOST?

Very disappointed.  No questions really answered for me.  Can anyone elaborate on the final episode?  Where they really on the island, was it all part of Jack's imagination?  LOST left me LOST.

Re: Ummmm - LOST?

  • I dont watch, but my husband came upstairs after it was over, and I said how was it, he said "those a$$holes wasted 6 years of my life!" hahaha. He was pretty ticked that nothing got answered.
  • check out the posts on the NC baby board to answer some of these questions. . .

  • i hated it.  completely let me down.

but dh sent me this link and it helped explain a lot to me, so it made me a little less disappointed in the episode, but not by much. bc i shouldn't have to read a website to figure out what the heck happened.

  • I just watched it last night b/c I didn't feel like dealing w/ the realtime commercials. I don't know how I feel about it, b/c I think with all the doors they had left open it would have been really hard for me to be satisfied. I'm disappointed that they kind of dropped the Wittmore storyline and never explained why he was there or what his true intentions are. I'm also disappointed we never heard more about Michael or Walt.

Thanks for the link.  DH and I were trying to figure it out last night and I was like just forget it - we will never know!  I will have to show him this later today!

Yes, they were really on the Island and all that stuff really did happen. Watch the final few minutes with Jack and his father and it explains just about everything. The whole sideways world was kind of like a "waiting room" for all their souls to reunite and move on, spiritually speaking. And only the ones who were spiritually connected (soulmates?) moved on together, hence why some people weren't there.

At first I was kind of disappointed with the ending, but the more I think about it the more I do like it. I like how they brought it back to the basics and made it less about the scientific stuff (like Dharma, the hatch, etc.) and more about reality (life and death, good vs. evil). And to answer Terp's question, I think Michael wasn't there because his soul got stuck on the island when he killed Annalucia (sp?). So he never did redeem himself and therefore can't move on with the others.

This link is pretty helpful in explaining the end:

  • This was my interpretation, too.  The crash was real, and the time on the island was real.  The "sideways" world was like limbo - they were all there until they died and could be reunited.  As Christian said to Jack, "some died before you, some died long after you."  So, Sawyer, Kate, Miles, Lapedius (sp?) and Claire made it off the island in the repaired plane, and lived a long time, while Jack died there.  Christian also said that the group had spent the most important times of their lives together.  So, Walt was not there because he was only 9 on the island.  It wasn't the most important time of his life.  Michael explained to Hurley earlier in the season that he was stuck on the Island as punishment for what he did.

I am disappointed that they dropped the Whitmore storyline, though.  I'd like to know more about how/why Charles learned of the island's existence and what his purpose was in returning time & time again.

  • I didn't necessarily wonder where Michael & Walt were as far as moving on from the sideways world b/c I remembered how Michael was stuck on the island with the other jungle whisperers. But I guess I was just never satisfied with how he & Walt's escape from the island was wrapped up and was hoping Michael to be in the island storyline once more to offer more of an explanation.
  • Thanks girls for the explanations - now to get DH to believe it!  Now that I understand it a little more then I totally agree with the show and am happy with the end result.

As you guys I was disappointed how they just dropped Whitmore - the man was a fanatic about the island and you are just going to forget it?  Dur!

  • Did y'all see this, re: the images of the wreckage at the very end, during the credits?

    http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/2010/05/lost-exclusive-abc-sets-the-record-straight-about-the-series-finales-plane-crash-images.html

Apparently, it was the ABC execs, not Cuse & Lindoff who put those it and it was supposed to just be something peaceful to transition from the emotion of the show into the evening news.  There's been a lot of speculation that they meant something so ABC had to come out & say they didn't.
