Foodies/Campers - What food to bring to...
a campsite? I am visiting my BFF as she is camping in Grand Haven. She said hamburgers and hot dogs so do you have any cool ideas besides the usual potato salad to bring? There will be five kids in total so something they would like and nothing too fancy. Thanks!!
Re: Foodies/Campers - What food to bring to...
Do you just want a side dish? If you're just visiting and not staying overnight, you could do anything really. Fruit salad, pasta salad, corn on the cob or potatoes can be done over/in a campfire.
I'm not super creative but that's usually what we bring camping!
I would probably bring a pasta salad.
I like JuliD's suggestion of fruit too, though.
I've brought this to a few cookouts and it does really well:

I would omit the cayanne pepper if you're serving it to kids. It's just as tastey without it.

My favorite camping treat ever.
This is what I was going to suggest, but we make pizza in them. Bread, sauce, cheese and whatever fillings you want in them. Mmmmmmmm. Now I want to go have a campfire.
Pizza is awesome too!
Didn't you mean Kasta salad?
Hehe... I thought about typing that actually, but I didn't know if anyone would remember. And JGE (who gave it that name) is no longer with us.
Yes to the hobo pies! I love PB&J in them
Fruit and pasta salad are always a big hit. Also potatoes/peppers/onion chopped and put in foil packets with butter and whatever seasoning you like. Set them in the fire pit near the hot coals and turn every 10 minutes or so. So good and easy clean up!
I was at a shower last week and the hostess served summer salsa.
It is a bit sweet and you serve it on chips, so good potential for kids to like it.
