Anyone tried Ovcon-35 or the Depo shot?

I'm currently on Seasonique which is not working for me so my doctor is going to switch me to something else, but I have some options. I can either try Ovcon-35 which I would take continously instead of monthly or try Depo-Provera. I have until tomorrow afternoon to decide my choice. I don't know anyone who's used Ovcon and of those I know that have used Depo I hear mixed reviews. The ratings I'm finding online are not making me want to try either, lol! I don't have a choice though. I'd love to hear any of your experiences with these two drugs.

  • My sister is on the Depo.  She likes it because she does not have to remember to take a pill every day.  I have also heard that people tend to gain weight on it, but I am not sure how true that is.  GL in you choice =)

  • I had a friend on depo for many years.  She really liked it too.  She gained some weight at the beginning, but lost it after she wised up to how much she was eating (it may not have been the depo)

Unfortunately I've only hear negative about the shot. I've heard you gain weight and become moody. I looked into it do and decided against it, so I'm gonna get an IUD. GL

  • I really liked Depo when I first went on it.  I never got a period, spotting, cramps, bloating, weight gain... nothing!  It was great.  But then after 3-4 years I started getting psychological side effects where I'd pretty much go crazy just when I was due for the shot.  So much so my male roommate knew when my shot was due!  So I decided to go off of it and go on the pill instead.  So my experience was positive in the short term, negative in the long term.
  • I talked to my Dr. about the Depo shot a couple weeks ago when I went in. The biggest reason for me not getting it, was that it could take up to 5 years to completely out of your system and can make it very very difficult to get pregnant. That was the deal breaker for me, since we want start trying again with in the next year.

I decided to go with Seasonique but I am not sure I like it so much. Can I ask why you are switching?

Butting In, the one thing that made me go off of it is it made my boobs so freaking sore all of the time (sorry if TMI). Getting your period only every 3 months was cool but it bothered me that badly that I had to switch

  • I was on the Depo shot for about 2 years.  I went off it because at the time there was a study out saying that prolonged use over 2 years could cause osteoperosis.

I didn't really have too many negative things to say about it.  I actually lost weight while I was on Depo, but that was due to eating right and working out.

When I came off of Depo my periods were really irregular for about 3-4 months even though I went right on the pill.  I had a ton of spotting and 15 -60 day perdiods.  After switching new BC a few times it got all straightened out and everything was fine.

    GL!

  • My doctor wouldn't put me on Depo because I'm already overweight and in most cases it causes weight gain, so we did the Nuva Ring instead, which I hated.  Then I switched to my IUD.
