My MIL is retiring from teaching in about a month. They live in CA, and we live in IL, and being that I'll be 36 weeks at the time of her retirement party, we won't be attending. However, we'd like to send her a really nice gift, and I'm totally stumped.
They do like to travel, and will be doing more of it when she retires, but they already have all the travel accoutrement that you could think of. She doesn't garden, or craft, or have any other hobbies to speak of except reading (and we already get her B&N gift cards all the time for gifts, so I wanted to do something different this time).
I'm thinking around the $150-$200 range. Jewelry maybe? Any other ideas?
Re: retirement gift ideas?
I am a fan of sentimental keepsake type gifts to commemorate milestones like this...how about a bracelet? Maybe a charm bracelet? There are some modern ones out their made by Brighton and Pandora. You could get her started and then, in her travels, etc. she may add to it?
I also love the gift ideas at RedEvelope.com inlcuding their bracelets.

It's quite funny that this topic has come up, as tonight our whole department is heading out to celebrate our bosses retirement and we came up with a few ideas.
She is a an avid golfer so we got her, a gold pendant lady golfer (with a slight swing motion) with a pearl acting as the golf ball. Next, we got her a gift certificate to her favourite Golf Course and the last thing was a framed printed photo collage of her staff and the things that we have done over the years, which she absolutely loved.
