s/o diapers (moms come in, help for a mom to be!)
Please recommend
a) the diapers you use
b) bottles
If our baby is like me she's going to have the most sensitive skin so I probably won't know what diaper works until we try some out. I also need bottle recs for when I'm at work.
Gina already recommended Dr. Browns, I added Born Free to our registry, but really don't know. Give me your opinion!
Re: s/o diapers (moms come in, help for a mom to be!)
Bottles:
If you plan to BF: Playtex wide mouth Ventaire. The LC said a wide mouth is important for early bottle feeding for bf'ed babies, as it creates less nipple confusion and this particular bottle style is one of the best for that. On a personal note, I really did notice a difference on the few occasions I had to use a different bottle when Lincoln was very young. The next time I bf'ed him, it took a few tries to get his latch correct.
Older babies and non-breastfed: I love the glass Born Free and the plain ol' Evenflo glass bottles. While they are heavier, making them harder for babies to hold, I love how clean they get. Plastic bottles seem to get slimy when handwashed multiple times. They are fine if I put them in the dishwasher, but in the beginning I was going through so many and didn't always have the dishwasher empty or enough dishes to run it.
Diapers: We use cloth and the Target brand (Up&Up) diapers. For the newborn size, we used Pampers Swaddlers. Swaddlers are very soft, and have the fold down notch for the umbilical cord, and Target brand holds ridiculous amounts of pee, keeps baby's skin dry, and no leaks.
EDIT: However, we used Swaddlers before the DryMax thing. I think you can still find the original ones some places, but it may just be what they still had in stock before the new ones came out.
a) diapers: We used pampers swaddlers and crusiers Luke's whole life until this dry-max thing started. Now we are using target's up and ups. They are much less expensive and work very well for him.
W/ Vivi I started her in swadlers and she had diaper rash that we couldn't get rid of. I switched her to huggies pure and naturals and haven't had any other problems. I used Up and ups on her for a few days last week and she didn't get a rash. I think maybe it's the secent that is used in pampers.
I DO recommend papers wipes above huggies or store brands. They others seem to fray and leave pieces behind whereas the pampers never do.
b) the only bottles we've ever used is the medelia ones. They are easy to use and clean and also attach directly to the pump.
Diapers - we used swaddlers (before dry max) and LOVED them. We will probably switch to Huggies Pure and Natural once the rest of the swaddlers are gone. I also really liked Pampers Baby Dry, not sure if they will have the dry max too. My friend gave me a big box and they work great.
Wipes - I have used Huggies, Pampers, Target and have had no issues with any of them.
Bottles - we started with the Playtex drop ins which are super easy. But Emmy had super gas issues that wouldnt quit, so I switched to Dr Browns which are a PITA to clean since there are 5 pieces but they work really well. I put everything but the nipples in the dishwasher and they come out great. I havent had any griminess with them.
Baby #2 - D&E - 10/1/10 @ 19w2d - thanatophoric dysplasia confirmed.
Charlotte Lillian will be forever in our hearts.
Baby #3 - Little Bean - natural miscarriage - 1/17/11 @ 5w5d
We use Luvs diapers and I really love them. They never leak...ever! We were using Huggies overnites at night, thinking that the Luvs might leak since they weren't as thick, but then started using the Luvs at night instead (much cheaper than the Huggies Overnites) and still NO leaks! They are WAY cheaper than Pampers and Huggies and are the same price as BJs brand when figuring out the cost per diaper. I've also used Pampers and Huggies (just got the jeans diapers) and while I like them, Luvs have been just as good. Obviously, I highly recommend them : )
And we've already discussed the bottle thing. I have a love/hate relationship with Dr. Brown's bottles. Luckily, I don't have to clean them often because when I'm home I BF. But on the days he gets bottles and I have to clean them, I often wonder if I should have used another bottle or should try another bottle with our next LO. I have to say that when Andrew does get bottle fed, he's never had any problems with reflux and hardly ever spit up at all. It could be because of the bottles...or it could just be that he does well with my breast milk or maybe he just doesn't have a sensitive GI system.
I'm already a week late on this but we use Huggies, have used them since Corinne was born. I've used all of theirs and they all seem to work just as well. Once she got into a size 4, I started using the overnights for bedtime and no problems with leaks.
For bottles, Playtex drop ins. They worked well, especially with breastfeeding. I also used Adiri whenever she seemed to fuss and not want the breast and then would gradually switch back to Playtex. I haven't seen Adiri anymore, I think Amazon still seems them though.
Also, not sure if anyone else has an opinion on this or not, but I had read and followed through with advice to keep her on the slow flow nipple because she was also breastfed. The theory is that once you switch to the faster flow nipple, it becomes easy for them and they won't want to work for the breast anymore. Not sure if it's true because I never made the switch but we also haven't had any problems either because we only gave her the slow flow.
Yes, this is true. You can't let those BFed babies get lazy!
