Job posting question

If there was a job posting in your department for a part time position, and you had a question on the pay - would you ask your boss?

I'm trying to think how this could backfire on me.  I am honestly just curious.

We have a part time opening and the the starting pay is $2.00 - $3.00 more per hour than it was when I started.  I want to ask him if that has changed recently and also if that is the starting pay range for a full time employee as well.

What do you think?  Would you ask?

Re: Job posting question

  • If the position would be considered a promotion I would totally ask for it.  I might ask more about the responsibilities and expectations before asking about the money.  In hopes that it would make me look like I'm interested in the job for more than just the $$.

  • Did  you ever get a larger raise to make up for it?

In my office they jumped the starting salary 5,000/year -- roughly 2.50/hr.

The year they did that, I got a 7,000 raise.

Yeah I did.  And I make more than that pay range now.

Nevermind!  He came to my desk and I asked him about it.  He was cool with it.  :-)
