Saw on your TT post about J being a different guy with the new house. How is all that going? You guys unpacked? Decorated? How does S like it? Meet your neighbors yet?
Most importantly, how are YOU liking it?
Re: Aria**
J is really into the backyard. Last night he was putting up some additional boards along the fence to keep the dogs in and met the neighbor. He said that she seemed nice and was interested in splitting the cost of the fence (HOORAY!). She told him that the house was previously occupied by renters (which explains a lot), so she hadn't been able to work with the owner on it before.
(We actually share a fence with 5 neighbors(!), but this neighbor is the only one at the same elevation as us.) I am really excited to get that part fixed because her poodles are barky-barky and our dogs just get them going.
We are almost unpacked. We haven't started decorating at all. I have no idea what I want to do now that we're in. There are a lot of window treatments needed. About half of the windows don't even have blinds, but it's so private that this hasn't been a problem. I would like one in Scarlett's window soon because her big window is the least private (faces the street).
Scarlett loves all the space to run around and play. We need to find some creative solutions for safeguarding the stairs. Conventional gates don't work because the walls are at angles and the railings are a different width at the bottom than the top.
The dogs love the yard and the space. They are rambunctious, and I need to teach them about barking when we come home. And not to chew on the bannister. Oy. Time to buy some bitters.
For me, I have been a renter my whole life, so this is a weird experience. Knowing that I have total power to change things is really cool, but I still have a "what would the landlord say" mentality. There are a lot of things to figure out still, like I have NO idea when my first payment is due. I know some period of time was covered by escrow, but... I am confused. I'll figure it out. I am really excited to spend a lot of money at Home Goods! Can't wait for that.
One of the things that REALLY pisses me off is that I bought this house, I am the only one on the loan, and I added J's name to the title. ALL of the homeowner mail comes addressed to... J. WTF? Mr and Mrs J Smith, if I'm lucky. How f*cking sexist is this? And 90% of the mail is very convincing fake legal notices and bait and switch sales pitches. No wonder people fall for these scams.
The commute is hella long, but I am getting some extra exercise (and now maybe some OT). I do feel like Why did we move so far away from the rest of the world? but I also know that we could not have afforded anything decent any closer.
We'll have a big housewarming for Scarlett's 1st birthday on July 31 (my 33rd!). I wish all of you could come!
So exciting! I'm glad things with J have improved and he is taking on some responsibility and helping! That is a definite plus. I have no doubt that before long, that place will be Smithington Palace
.
Gonna take some before and after pictures?
I like Judy, but I'm thinking maybe Viv...
Our address is 515 and the roman numerals spell VIV.
(Actually it would be DXV for 515, but that's no fun.)
awwwwwe how exciting! If you get all your boxes unpacked before me I will scream
(Yes we have been in our house a year now, dont judge)
::butting in::
Wish we could all make it for the housewarming! I hope you're able to do some before and afters...I always love seeing the personal touch people put on their homes. Viv gets a

VIV IS AWESOME!!
I wish your house warming was like 2 weeks earlier, cause we will be in Cali for July 7-13 for my aunt's wedding! We won't be so close to the LA area, we will be in lake Tahoe! but that's SOOOO much closer than FL is! LOL
Glad all is moving in the right direction, and when you see the window treatments you want you will know! Don't rush! This is your house, take your time and make it perfect for you and your family!!!
