What are some (lightweight) "Cincinnati" gifts to send to a friend overseas?

One of my good friends moved to New Zealand, and talking to her the other night, I can hear how much she misses her friends and family. I would like to send her a mini "I miss you" gift, but I was a little shocked how much postage would be to send to New Zealand.

Nonetheless, I'd still like to send her a mini care package- can you recommend some light items that are still "Cincinnati"-esque or even some "I miss you!" gifts (keeping in mind it will take some time for the package to be delivered to her?

Some ideas I had are:

  • Caribbean Jerk marinade (not cincy-esque but she loves this marinade)
  • Milk & Honey granola (not a cincy-esque item but I introduced her to this, and we're both hooked)
  • Skyline Chili packets (I can't find these anywhere!)
  • Gossip magazines

Re: What are some (lightweight) "Cincinnati" gifts to send to a friend overseas?

    • They don't make Skyline brand chili packets, only cans and frozen.  For packets, I prefer the blue packages of Cincinnati Style Chili mixes.  Gold Star is just okay to me but good in a fix.

      Some more ideas...

      • Grippo potato chips
      • Individually wrapped Busken smiley face cookies
      • Postcard with Buckeye recipe (they sell these at the I <3 Cincinnati store downtown and I think at some Hallmarks)
      • Cincy t-shirt/jersey/sportswear (pick your fave team! Reds, Bengals, Cyclones, Bearcats, Muskees, etc.)
      • Not sure if this would work and it's not so light but maybe goetta in a jar? (Find a recipe and layer the ingredients in a mason jar and then attach a card with cooking directions; she can add the meat and other perishables when she's ready to prepare)
    • I like Christine's ideas
    • Yeah, Christine stole all of my ideas for the chips and packets of chili. The only other suggestion would be some chocolates, but as I am typing it out I don't know if they would possibly melt so that may not be such a great idea!

    • I think you should go with Christine's idea but send a few key ingredients and recipe cards and maybe make them yourself and take a picture of them so she can see what they should look like (if she's not a big cook and I know you are).

You are so sweet to do this for your friend!
