..and mostly because I'm stuck here packing the house and going to work, and K is out there viewing the houses. I think BOTH sides are really tiring and sucky, but I'm just going to whine for a minute.
The area is nice, but there really is not a whole lot available that we actually want. We don't want something cookie cutter, we don't want to be outside of town, and we don't want something that has to have a lot of work done to it. We're on this incredibly tight timeline, so that takes out a huge chunk of them because we basically have to move out there in about a WEEK (his job start date is the 15th). One which is a holiday weekend!
To top it off - our realtor doesn't really know the area we're looking at, and for every 3 properties she sends us, we find 4 more by ourselves to look through.
I'm really thankful that he got this job opportunity, and it sounds like it'll get us to all of our financial goals in the next 3 years, so the churn is worth it and it'll all be over soon.. but that timeline is REALLY freaking stressful.
Oh, and icing on the cake - K and I got into a HUGE fight last night because he seems to think he has to do everything else on his own (getting quotes for movers and transporting my car). I don't mind him doing it all, but that would leave me in Austin a week later than I've scheduled with work. They're being awesome enough to let me keep my job and work remotely, and I can't really keep moving my move date on them with I/T and deadlines! Blah.
Vent over.. back to looking for quotes and listening to conference calls..
Re: House Hunting in a different city is NOT fun. (vent)
I'm sorry you're dealing with that. I know it's stressful, as DH and I were in much the same boat when we moved back to DC from Austin three years ago. Housing in DC -- even rental properties -- was tight within our budget range, DH's start date was not flexible, and on top of all that our movers arrived to pack our Austin home a day early (government scheduling SNAFU). When I unpacked, I found plates that had been packed with breakfast still on them. Good times.
Anyway, back to you...
Can K find you guys some temporary housing in NC to tide you over until you can find a place you genuinely like? Even an extended stay hotel or something? Most movers will (for a fee, of course) warehouse your furniture and stuff for you until you're ready to move it into your new home, and it seems like it would be better in the long run to find a place you can really live with, rather than something you'll just be putting up with, you know?
Whatever happens, good luck! It'll all work out, but the stress is so not fun. Go get yourself a massage or something.
i was going to ask if this was an option as well. not ideal, but i agree that its better than ending up with a home that you're just having to put up with rather than really like.
sorry its such a stressful time, moving out of state is a big deal but being on such a time crunch definitely puts on the pressure. (((( hugs ))))

Thanks! Snarf...:P
Yeah, I wanted to do temporary housing, but K is REALLY opposed to it for some reason. I think its because his stuff is already in NC, and he doesn't want to have to move twice in a month. Ok, I get it, and if he's not working right now and wants to put himself through that stress, its not worth me fighting him on it.
On the bright side, he is doing a STELLAR job out there - he's taking video of houses while he looks at them and emails them to me (hooray for smartphones!) so I can weigh in. A couple of the ones he's sent in the last hour are making me feel way better!
