Where to get boxes for moving?

DH and I are on the hunt for boxes as we prepare to move next month. We've gotten some from our offices and from family, but we're looking for other sources. Does anyone know of any local stores/business that are known for giving away their boxes? Or any cheap places to buy them? I'm sure we'll have to buy a few in the end (at least the wardrobe-style ones), but the less we have to invest in boxes, the better!

  • Pier One in Kenwood has a box only recycle bin behind their store.  I got 90% of our boxes there!
  • Go to a grocery store and ask.  However, since this is a popular moving weekend, you might wait until sometime next week...

  • We got all our moving boxes from local Krogers.  If you ask customer service, they can set aside all the egg boxes for you during the week and then you can pick them up all at the same time.  They're a nice size (not too big, not too small) and the handles are nice (reco cutting slits vertically on either side of the top of the handles then folding them over so it's more comfortable to hold).

Ask at Gap in Rookwood or Kenwood.  They get tons of boxes a few times a week, they will save you some!
