Other debate issues

Do you think in the next debate we can get some new issues besides the economy and iraq/afghanistan?

When are we going to hear more in-depth on social security, abortion or women's rights, immigration, education, supreme court appointments or other issues?  I wouldn't mind hearing more details on their tax plans not just for individuals but for businesses because it is going to take businesses growing and spending to really help boost this sagging economy?

UGH! I don't think I heard much new tonight except the refiguring of mortgages!

Re: Other debate issues

  • The problem with immigration is they both signed the same bill.

They also have the same feelings on gay marriage/civil unions.

Abortion hasn't come up since the faith interview because no one has asked about judges.

  • I'm not certain an abortion litmus test is really important to McCain and Obama is not exactly the poster child for championing choice.  Since neither of them are extreme on social issues, it's not all that interesting to hear about.

  • Meganne I SO agree with you.  I think the debates are getting pointless since they both hit on the same talking points and say the same things that they say in stump speeches.  I would be SO happy if they talked about some new topics.  Granted - it's hard to justify topics outside of two "discussed" tonight given the current geopolitical and economic situations.

  • I'm with you.

I feel like it's the same debate over and over.

I'm ready for some new territory.

  • Word to that. I'd love to hear some new stuff.
  • I would really like to hear women's rights addressed. Since McCain opposed the Ledbetter Act, I would really like to know if he has any alternative plan to enforce equal pay right.

I think judges are a HUGE issue that need to be addressed. If McCain gets elected, the Supreme Court could swing pretty far to the right, but if Obama gets elected, it's likely to basically stay where it is. (That doesn't even address the issue of lower courts.) I wish they had some sort of special Constitutional forum where they would talk in depth about cases they agree/disagree with so we could get a better idea of the type of judges they would appoint.
