RP from baby board: found a lost dog

Ugh.  I don't know how or why, but I attract strays, and I hate it.  Yesterday when I pulled in the driveway and got out of DH's car, this dog came flying up and jumped into the car.  Then followed me into my garage.  Then my house.  And he wouldn't leave and had no tags, so we took him in to try to find his owners.  I posted on our neighborhood website and sent a mass email to our crime watch group and everyone else whose emails I have.  Nobody recognizes him except one neighbor whose next door neighbor had been keeping the dog for a few days after THEY found him lost, but then let him go because their dogs were freaking out.  :(  So obviously, nobody's looking too hard for this dog, because there are no signs up and he's been lost at least 3 days.  I drove around last night asking everyone I saw if they were missing a dog or knew of a neighbor with a medium sized black dog ... nada.We can't keep him.  I need something else to care for like I need a hole in my head.  He is SO sweet, loves the kitties and our dog and thought Anderson was the coolest thing ever.  He's breaking my heart because he's clearly a good boy, but if no one comes forward I'm going to have to take him to the shelter.  :::sob:::  There's just no way he can stay here longer than a few more days.Sooo....any other ideas?  Anyone looking for a super sweet pet in case I can't find his owners?  He's medium sized, black and white, maybe some sort of cocker spaniel mix?  He seems young - lots of energy.  Here's a pic:image

  • He is a cutie!  Maybe take him to a vet to see if he's microchipped?  I'd actually really think about taking him if I wasn't about to do a cross country move.

That's a good idea, I may try that on my husband's day off when he can stay with the kids.  I'm doubtful that he will be chipped, it doesn't look like he's neutered and it doesn't seem like anyone has taken the time to teach basic manners like "sit" ... so I doubt the owners were the really proactive type.  :(  But it's worth a try, thanks for the idea.

  • You can take him to the Animal Trustees of Austin Span & Neuter Clinic and they can scan him for you. They might even be able to help you find him a rescue group / home if you explain the situation. They have lots of contacts in the city.

    Good luck.

  • I just reposted on FB...I have a friend that lives in that neighborhood.
  • Amy & Keri - thank you SO much for the help/tip!

  • OMG look at that face! What a cutie.

Ditto what the others said about talking to the shelter about a rescue group. It sounds like he's got a wonderful demeanor and would be a great family pet. I wish I could take him, but I have my hands full with the kitties at the moment.
