My husband and I have been noticing that within the past 2-3 weeks someone has been routinely letting their dog use our front lawn to go to the bathroom. We cleaned up about 6 spots today. At first we thought it was just someone random walking their dog that didnt have a bag and we cleaned it up. We are now up to 6 spots in less than a week which I think is excessive.
When we first moved into the neighborhood people basically told us we were not welcome.
One of our neighbors at the end of the cul-de-sac recently got what looks like a yellow lab puppy
We live on a cul-de-sac and there are 2 open lots next to us and we think it is the neighbor as we have not had any problems with this when we moved in last fall or early this spring.
If it is the neighbors like we suspect then they are purposely walking up to our house when we are gone and letting the dog go!
I told the H that we should stick a sign between the bottom yard and the sidewalk with doggie bags for people to clean their stuff and a nice sign reminding them we keep our dogs in our fenced yard to use the bathroom.
WWYD?
I know we can suck it up and clean it but its really disrespectful to not clean up after your animal. (we always have bags with us when we do go for walks so its not as if we are making messes in others yards.)
Re: WWYD: Neighbor is letting dog poop in our yard
There are usually other requirements for homes in a subdivision beside just the size of the house, so you may want to check that out to find out why they really might be so upset. I know that in my neighborhood, the people would have a fit if someone built a house outside the requirements. However, that should have been the job of your builder.
On the other hand, leaving dog feces around the neighborhood is probably also an HOA issue. I would read through the rules and make a complaint to the HOA. It's not fair that you are cleaning up after someone else's dog and you shouldn't just suck it up. Don't provide your neighbors with bags - that's their responsibility.
Wait, why did they say you were not welcome there?
Anyway, if there is an association I'd start with them, then do a sign if that doesn't work. And if you see anyone let a dog stop & go I'd stick my head out and remind them to pick it up. My dogs always seem to go one last time after I've used all my bags but at least I try to go back & clean it up!
I agree, file a complaint with the HOA and see if you can catch the offender(s) in action. If you see them, make sure you call them out on it (I'm sure you/H would). That's pretty rediculous and can't believe that your neighbors would say you're not welcome in the neighborhood. Talk about unfriendly! Is it personal or are they just generally mean to everybody?
We just got our dog and even as first-time dog owners we know better than to leave poop in someone else's yard. I always travel with a couple baggies when we go for walks just to be safe!

I hate that. I used to have neighbors like this in my old subdivision back in NKY. They'd leave their ginormous dog off the leash all day, and he'd leave his ginormous poops in my lawn. Sadly, I never worked up the nerve to confront them about it, but things eventually worked out. Their dog was hit by a car (he wasn't hurt), and the idiot owners finally received their wake-up call and started keeping him on a leash.
I absolutely loathe irresponsible pet owners.
First - be SURE you have the right people. If there's any doubt, then suck it up that you're going to have to clean up.
For me - it would be worth hanging out around the house for a morning or two to find out who is passing my house and when. I'd keep a few bags by the front door and when the offending dog was actually in a squat - well, if I didn't see the owner reaching for a bag (b/c we all know that we start reaching for the bag as soon as the dog picks the spot), I'd step outside with the bag and say 'Hi. It looked like you could use a bag. I know I always feel like a jerk when I forget mine.' and walk up to them with your friendliest smile.
What do you mean that your new cul de sac made it clear you were not welcome? In what way did they make it clear?
Im so confused as to why people would care that you built with a different builder. Do I just not understand neighborhood politics?
As to the dog issue, I would just put up a no trespassing sign, see if that works. If not, I would go with a "Please clean up after your dogs or I will file a complaint" sign. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt with dog poop, because like someone else said, every once in a while my dogs will go an unexpected second time, and if I'm not near home, I feel bad but that person might be SOL. I started carrying extra bags with me in my new "doggy back pack" but it took me a while to realize I needed that.
Good luck!
Unless they're related to the developer in some way I don't see how your choice in builder matters.
Regardless, I would post a sign on your lawn and be prepared to hand out some bags if you catch someone letting their dog take a dump on your lawn.
