So....I splurged and got the BM gown. But that's only because (a) we've gotten tickets to another black tie event (that makes three in the next five months - that I know about) so it's more of an investment piece and (b) I was able to talk the saleswoman into honoring a 30% off coupon that expired on Sunday.
I went to pick it up yesterday (it's absolutely gorgeous IRL, btw), and discovered that the 4 was HUGE on me. They don't have any more two's available, and because the size chart was so screwy (per the size chart, I'm a six), they're going to do the alterations at a reduced cost for me (basically I'm not having to pay to have the bust and waist taken in, but I am going to have to pay for the hem since I would have had to pay for that even if they'd had a two). I should be able to pick the dress up next Tuesday. ![]()
But now I'm wondering what sort of shoes to wear. Suggestions, MD? (or anyone else..
)
Re: s/o on fashion help
ETA: Where did you find a 30% off coupon for Saks??
Haha, I thought you were a 2
. Those size charts are always wrong, as we discovered when my cousin was swimming in the 2 we ordered for her. (ETA: I was shocked to see she measured as a 4 in the bust as she is so clearly a 0 or 00 in general. I'm oddly proportioned, so I learned early on the thing with boobs is - they squish. It's not like hips where there are bones that won't move, so you rarely should go up a size b/c of the bust...unless it's a difference of like, 4" or something.)
Anyway, FBR is more of the shoe expert, but I would go with a peep-toe platform.
(Not suggesting you spend another $800 on shoes, but I knew I'd find the platform heigh I was picturing in Louboutins. Steve Madden probably has some similar styles)
Love the gown, so jealousE!
AH.
BUT - I'm having the dress hemmed to wear with 3 1/2 (maybe a 3 3/4" - she measured the heel all weird) heels. I can probably push it to a 4" heel and still have it look okay, but definitely not above that.
::le sigh::
And, yes, you were right about the sizing.
I really didn't think it would be that big, though. The Leger that I bought was a size 4, and it fit pretty well. Anything smaller than that would have been pretty indecent - I am NOT Lindsay Lohan, thank you very much!
teehee. Yeah, it's tricky with all the incredible vanity sizing at mass-market brands.
Side note: have you been to town shop yet? It's on the upper-west side and kind of looks like a crappy little over-stocked shop when you go in, but they will size you right in bras. And they carry every size, so unless you're like, a 24JJ, they'll fit you correctly (as opposed to fit you to the sizes they carry, which is what most stores do). And if you are a 24JJ... I imagine they have tailoring, lol.
how can we give you shoe advice w/o a pic of the dress?!!?!??!
Sorry, sugr.
Here it is:

Dude.
I live less than a block from there. How have I missed it? ::shakes head::
Haha, I thought you were an UWSer. You probably missed it b/c it looks like it'd be cheap (both inside and out), but it's really magnificent (much better than Intimacy).
Ummm....yeah. So I walk by that place literally every day. And you're right, I assumed it was some cheap crappy place. Now I'm going to have to walk in and check it out.
Thanks for the rec.
On another note, I posted this on F&B, but I thought I'd ask you here, too. FI has now decided it would be financially wise for him to buy a tuxedo instead of renting one each time (a decision I've been pushing for awhile). Where's a good place to look for one that's good quality, but won't give him sticker shock?
LOLzzzz
Be sure to ask for a fitting. I bet now would be a fairly light time for them.
As for a tux, I really don't know. Maybe Men's Wearhouse? Do you travel internationally much? You could get one tailor made in Hong Kong...
Sorry, I'm a bit of a dunce with menswear.
