Banking

My sister is moving up this way very soon and her current bank doesn't have any local branches. She is looking for a new bank now. DH and I use a local bank so I can't really help much. Do you have a bank you love or hate?

Re: Banking

  • I HATE Bank of America.  I really like TD Bank....I have been with them for about four years now.
  • I've heard a lot of complaints about Bank of America, but we have no complaints - they've been our bank (first separately, now together) ever since we had our own accounts separate from our parents and the few times we've had any problems, they've been responsive and helpful.

I've heard good things about Sovereign

We're also with Bank of America. I used to have an account with Stoneham bank back when BoA was (sucky) Fleet. But when I went to Australia for school in 2005 I needed a debit card in a certain network so I opened a BoA account.

When I moved out of town I closed my Stoneham account since there wasn't a location near where I was moving. I don't work close to home and with BoA ATMs everywhere it is so convenient. I've never had a problem with my account or anything either.

  • We also use BoA and like them a lot.

In fact, when someone stole my credit card number in my pre-firewall days and went on a $2,000 spending spree in Spain, they shut down my card and alerted me, just as I was discovering the activity myself while doing some online banking. It was a PITA to fill out the paperwork, but were wonderful throughout the process and completely replenished my account for all of the charges.

  • DH and I use St. Mary's Credit Union out of Marlborough. I love it. Even though it's a local bank, they are part of the SUM banking networks, so we get free ATM uses throughout the US.

  • I have had BofA for 7 years, since I was 16, and I love it.

Now DH and I have our accounts there as well as some credit cards.

  • I know lots of people hate them, but I've had Bank of America since I graduated from high school and haven't had a problem. I even converted Dh over to them and we got our home loan through them as well. And they're all over so you don't have to worry about finding one if you need it while you're out of town (or if you move!)

Same here, with our checking/savings account.  The only issue that we had was a surprise change in our credit card terms - but it seems like every CC company has been guilty of that lately.

  • We both have our checking accounts with BoA - I had mine since I first moved to Maryland in 2002, his goes all the way back to when it was Fleet, and although the customer service sucks, it makes transferring funds easy, so we've been sticking with them.

Haha, I've had mine since it was Fleet, too.

I believe it was 2002 and it was still Fleet then. I am surprised yours wasn't Fleet as well. Weird.

I've had mine since it was Bank of New Bedford, which was bought by Fleet, which was bought by BoA. lol

Lol, it could just be laziness, not bothering to switch banks.  It started with an actual passbook account that my parents set up for me when I was a kid.
