Traverse City Recs

Any recommendations would be helpful.  My DH and I want to go there for our 1 year anniversary coming up in June.  TIA

Re: Traverse City Recs

  • Wine tasting! Our favorites are Chateau Chantal and Chateau Grand Traverse, both on Old Mission Peninsula. Both have B&Bs, but we've never stayed there. We don't know much about the wineries on Leelanau Peninsula, other than there are a bunch. :)

Downtown is fun and easy to navigate. Petoskey is an easy day trip. The Sleeping Bear Dunes are kind of a big thing. :)

We had our honeymoon and 1st anniversary there, and just got back from the Bayshore Marathon this weekend. Love it up there!

  • I've stayed at the Bayshore and Park Place hotels, and both were very nice.  Park Place is right downtown.

I agree with pp, Old Mission Peninsula wine tasting is a blast - and free!!!

I would recommend the Apache Trout Grill for a place to get dinner.

For drinks (bar scene), I'd recommend Union Street or the Loading Dock.

    Have fun!

  • North Peak Brewing Company has amazing food and really great beer. They are located downtown TC. If you're into shopping, there are some really cute little stores downtown as well.
  • Amical is a great restaurant.  We have stayed at the Grand Traverse Resort and like it.  The Cherry Stop is a fun place to visit--they have a wine bar inside.  I love The Green House Cafe for breakfast or lunch.

Ditto pp about Old Mission peninsula.  Leelanau peninsula is great, too.  I love Shady Lane and L.Mawby (all sparkling wines).  Black Star Farms is also really nice; WendyGR visits there often I believe.

Have fun!  Love the TC area.

  • DH and I love hiking at the Sleeping Bear Dunes.  This may sound lame, but we also really enjoy just driving up Old Mission Peninsula and around the Leelanau Peninsula.  It's so pretty up there!
  • Thanks everyone!!  I am so looking forward to checking out a few of your suggestions.

  • I'm a little late with responding but DH and I go up to TC every year for our anniversary.  We just got back, actually!  We love doing the wine trails both on Old Mission Peninsula and Leelanau.  I highly recommend calling the visitors bureau for their nice foldout map that has all the winery locations on it.  Instead of putting all the winery addresses in to GPS, you can just follow the extremely detailed map.  We used to stay at Best Western which has very inexpensive jacuzzi suites before DH started traveling for work and getting Marriott points (so we just stay there for free, but not quite so fun as being on the strip).  Our favorite restaurants are North Peak, Bowers Harbor Inn (haunted mansion on Old Mission), and Red Ginger.  Feel free to email me if you want.  I have a list of which wineries charge to taste and which are free, and also which ones to just skip because their wines are not so great.  goodgolly79 at gmail dot com

    Amical has a gluten-free menu :)
