I might be nuts

I'll be 8 months pregnant on Friday, and as of today, this is what my kitchen looks like.

Actually, I'd rather have the kitchen redone before the baby arrives, but you know, nothing like a little added stress at crunch time.  haha.

  • I can't see your picture, but holy cow, how did you get to be 8 months pg already?!  It seems like it has just flown by.

I hope your kitchen project is completed soon, with at least a couple of weeks to spare before Baby arrives.

  • Yikes!  Well you have a great excuse to eat out! :)

Haha.  You're braver than I am.  I told Nick that I wouldn't consider having a baby until our bathroom was done, and he told me we should wait until I get pg to start that project.  Nope.  No babies until I get a real bathroom.  I'm glad I did it that way because this bathroom thing is taking a lot longer than we thought.  I couldn't imagine being pg with a project like that!   I have to admit, a baby on the way would be a good motivator to getting a project done ASAP.  Stick out tongue

What all are you doing to your kitchen?

  • I know, 8 months already.  I cannot believe it myself.  I'm starting to get really nervous!

I was about 6 weeks pregnant when we started our bathroom renno, but there was no turning back on that one.  I found out I was pg at 4 weeks, and all of the stuff had already been ordered and the start date contracted.  It wasn't that bad, and I wanted it done.  We have another full bath in the basement, and a half bath on the main level.  It did take a lot longer than we thought though.  That project had us taking the walls down to the studs though, and redoing plumbing and electrical.  Once you start going down that road, issues always seem to pop up in older houses.

This project should be done by the end of June.  New floors, counters, sink, fixtures, backsplash, paint and trim.  So if all goes well, I should have a few weeks to spare to sit back and enjoy it before the baby arrives.  Fingers crossed.

I wouldn't ever want to do this with a baby in the house.  It can be realllly dusty at times (they are really good about cleaning up at the end of each day thankfully) and loud.  I'm not sure how a baby could ever sleep during the day with all that going on.  I'm glad I get to go to work to be honest.  haha.

  • wow! We had a similar situation when logan was born, but not quite as big as re-doing a kitchen! I am not sure I could have handled that.  We re-roofed, resided, added a small addition and remodeled one room all in the month before and after Logan was born!  Its hectic, but definitely a good motivator to complete the projects quickly!

  • Jealous. A new kitchen is on a list of my "if we win the lottery or have $100,000 dumped onto our lap."

  • Yikes!  That looks stressful.  I'll keep my fingers crossed that this project goes perfectly.

You could probably have a new kitchen for much less than $100K.  I have recently been pricing out a reno for our small kitchen and we have estimated in the neighborhood of $25K (including new cabinets, countertops, flooring, and appliances) for mid-range product (SS appliances, tiles floors, granite, etc).

It's on a list with many other things. And $25K is absolutely out of the question. That is insanity. It would price my house right out of ever selling it.

  • Wow!  The kitchen renovation and being 8 mths pregnant can be stressful situations on their own!  I'm sure everything will work out just fine.
