I didn't get the job. Apparently the fact that I'm awesome at communication (#2 thing in that job) can't compete with the fact the other chick is only slightly more familiar with the order forms (#1 thing). Her communication is decent, but nowhere near mine.
But my manager said once we get things ready to offshore our work, she wouldn't mind me learning the ins and outs of that position so if another comes open, I am a shoo-in. (To which I thought "Great, so hopefully before I get my notice in my current position!"
)
Re: And...
I'm sorry Paula.
IMO form knowledge is something anyone can learn, communication, on the otherhand, is a soft skill that doesn't come easily.
Take advantage of her offer. Maybe someone else within the company will notice and will allow you the exposure to new aspects of the company.
I appreciate the offer she gave me and would love it and think it'd be great... if I expected to be here in 6 months.
Because after we get things ready for offshore, my 4-person team will be lucky to have 2 people left. CW #1 is the Golden Child... she will not be going anywhere. CW #2 is gone. Guaranteed. My manager can't stand her. That leaves #3 and myself fighting for that second position... and neither of us want to be that person because the person in that position will be ridiculously overworked and have to manage all of the offshore issues.
