Going to NC next week-recs?

FBIL is coming home from Iraq next week so I'm helping my sister drive down.  He's stationed at Camp LeJeune (Jacksonville, NC area).  I'll be there for about 4 days then flying home while my sister & parents will be there for another 4-5 days.  His parents are renting a beach house (maybe Topsail area?) for all of us (!) but I'm looking for ideas other than sitting on the beach.  I don't think FBIL will be with us 24/7 as he'll still belong to the USMC.

Has anyone been down there?  Any ideas?

  • My parents have a beach house on Topsail! It would be funny if that's the one you're renting. I just drove down and stayed there with the kids during spring break.

Honestly, there's not a whole lot at Topsail, and that's one of the reasons I love it. If you want to drive about an hour, there are two aquariums in the area. And I'm sure there's plenty to do if you'd like to drive to Wilmington.

    Do you fish?

  • I don't fish.  I'm actually flying home out of Wilmington.  I think we're going to stop & spend the night somewhere on the drive down, not sure though.  Any recs for stops?

Not along the route we take. It's not an exciting 10 hours at all!

  • Wilmington is a neat town.  They have an old battleship and lots of cute stores/restaurants in town.  (And it's totally where Dawson's Creek and One Tree HIll were/are filmed. OMG! lol j/k).
