visiting Richmond/Williamsburg/VA beach

can you recommend any good BBQ?

Also, what would you say can't be missed?

Would you go to Busch Gardens with 2 year old babies?

Re: visiting Richmond/Williamsburg/VA beach

  • There is a ton of good BBQ in Richmond, most notably Buz and Ned's, which was on Throwdown with Bobby Flay (and won!) for their brisket. Their other BBQ is great too!

I'm not sure about BG with babies that young, I don't know how much they'd be into it, but I do know they have a new Sesame Street area that's really nice. Also, there is really good BBQ inside the park at the Traphouse in the New France area.

    Have fun!

  • In Williamsburg there is a place called Pierce's Pitt BBQ which is a local favorite and draws crowds. Yummy and worth the wait in line. Promise.  Red, Hot & Blue is also decent BBQ if you prefer full-service.

BG has a special area just for the younger tykes - DragonLand where the rides are designed for younger children and can also accommodate the parents so that they can ride with.  Scattered throughout the park are more kiddie rides - not really for the babies but more toddler and pre-school ages.  2 and under is free admittance so you can't lose out on much should you choose to go!  Have fun!!

  • Sorry, I'm a vegeterian so I can't help with the BBQ thing but I live near Busch Gardens.  When my DH and I go with my little girl we bring my mom or another adult that isn't that big into the rides.  We do the kiddie stuff first so Baby Girl gets her fun time and then Grandma watches here while DH and I ride rides.  Grandma can sit and chill in the shade or take her into nearby gift shops, look at flowers, people watch etc....

  • I second Pierces in Williamsburg...I will drive the 45 minutes just to go there for BBQ and drive back to Richmond :)  It is amazing....I've heard that people use to park on the side of the Interstate and hop the guard rail to get there since it was very easy to miss before the area built up.

For kids, Great Wolf Lodge is right next to Pierces....I know lots of families that go there to stay and love it. It is a hotel with an indoor waterpark including areas for toddlers and really caters to families and kids.

Richmond has tons of BBQ...Smokey Pig in Ashland, Double Ts in Carrytown, Buzz and Neds, Bills BBQ, Grandpa Eddies.

  • DH and I went on a mini bbq "tour" of Richmond last year (we live here).  After trying several places, here are the ones we like best:  Q BBQ (owner Tuffy was on TLC's BBQ Pitmasters show), Buz N Ned's, Alamo BBQ and Ronnie's.  Pierce's in Williamsburg is good... I always get JC's Special (sandwich, drink, fries and a cookie).
  • Pierces is excellent.  I like their homemade limeade.

We went to Richmond and they had a hole in the wall place called Fatboys (I think) that was also very good.

  • Personally I would not want to go to Busch Gardens with 2-year olds, especially if you are going to go this summer when it is hot.

If you are looking for some good shopping, the prime outlets are in Williamsburg and they have some good stores.
