I'm leaning toward taking the plunge to the iPhone in a few weeks. (Though not the new model coming this month)
In light of AT&T's announcement of the change in data plans, can those with iPhones tell me how much data they normally use per month? I think I could go with the cheaper 200MB plan since I have wi-fi access pretty much everywhere except while traveling.

Re: iPhoners
I'm looking at my bill and for me is says 144,072 KB for me and for the hubs 351,768 KB.
HTH
I use somewhere between 150-250 MB per month.
I'm planning to get the new 4G (or whatever they call it) when it is announced on June 7...and I think I'm going to hang with my unlimited plan for a month to see how much bandwidth the new features use (like video chat).
If I'm still using around the same...I'm going to get the 200 MB plan. You can change your plan at any time - even in the middle of the month if you go over. I'll monitor usage and if I go over 200MB, I'll bump up to 2GB for the month and then go back down to 200 the following month.
And, unlike texting plans where they rape you if you go over the limit...with the new AT&T data plans...if you go over 200 MB and completely forget to call and change your plan...they automatically issue you another 200MB at $15...so at the end of the day, you've still only paid $30 (which is what the unlimited costs).
I think you'll be fine with 200MB - and if you see you aren't...just bump up.

Yeah my mom mentioned that my dad may even get one now that the fee is so low. You have to take some things said on MacRumors with a grain of salt. There are people on there that tether their phones (illegally) to their laptops and do a lot of other things that no normal user would/should do. I don't understand why people over there are complaining. For 98% of users, their bill will decrease by at least $5...potentially cut in half dependent on usage. I see it as a great thing!
There is a setting in the phone where it allows you to connect to wireless networks around you. If set to yes, every time you are in a place with wi-fi, you'll get a pop up on the iPhone screen that says "connect to....XYZnetwork" - or if there are multiple, it will list all possible networks. You can then choose to accept and sit on that wi-fi network, or decline and stay on 3G. If you are at home or work and already have the wi-fi info in your phone and it's considered a "known" network...it will automatically hop onto that network.
Yeah, I was kind of wondering about all the freakouts and "AT&T is the devil." It makes sense to keep users to think about their usage plus with the 4G coming out and using more bandwidth, it makes sense from a profit standpoint too. Your electric bill and gas costs run by usage, why shouldn't internet service?
So basically when I'm not at home or work is when I'd have to use the 3G data, and I'd really only use it for emailing and social media. So I hope I'd be safe in the 200MB!

I really think you will be. I think there were only 2 months recently that I went over 200 MB and it was still only like 225 MB one month and 256 MB the other month.
I use mine for playing Words With Friends, reading email, checking Facebook, Twitter, looking at the net online, etc and I feel like I use mine a ton...and still apparently I'm not using much! You shouldn't have a problem staying under the limit.
Also, not sure if you were planning to get the 4G or not...but if you don't care about the new model...I believe the 3GS is on sale at WalMart for $97 now...saw a recent MacRumors post about it.

I'm not really 100% sure, but I think they call in and activate, etc for you? Maybe? If not, I guess you just call when you get home and they handle it over the phone.
If you wait until after the announcement of the 4G, I'm guessing the 3GS will be available for $99 at Apple and AT&T which may make the process easier.
