LEEP Procedure

Has anyone ever had  LEEP Procedure done after your pap and colposcopy come back abnormal? I was just told that I need to have one done and I'm a bit concerned. If anyone has some more details, I would greatly appreciate it.

Re: LEEP Procedure

  • I had one done about 3 years ago and it's no big. When you go in your on the table just like you would be for a PAP and they freeze you a little bit. It takes like 15 minutes if that and afterward when the freezing wore off I was sore enough to need some tylenol and I had a little spotting but they tell you that's to be expected. The next day I was just fine.

  • I had one done about 4 years ago and was really freaked out about it all too.  Looking back on it, I can honestly say that I made it out to be more than it really was.  It really wasn't painful, was over pretty quick, and I just had some spotting throughout the day.  I was back at work the next day. I think they had me come in for a PAP six months later.

Good luck to you and try not to worry about it too much.  My PAP's have been normal ever since, and are back to a yearly basis.

  • I had one about 4 years ago. They put me to sleep for it- but it really only took them about 20 minutes. I was a little crampy and I spotted after- nothing major.  Just like a period. I think that it sounds a lot worse than it is. I just took some advil afterwards.  No pain killers needed :)
  • I had one done 7 years ago. I went in, they numbed everything, and I was out of there in 20 minutes. I had some cramping and spotting, but advil helped that a lot. I took it easy the first day, but by the next day I was good to go! I followed up with a pap every 3 months for a year.

  • Thanks guys =) I do not know anyone who has personally had it done, so you helped ease my mind a bit. I think it does sound a lot worse than what it is!

    Much appreciated! =)

  • This is a way different response than you are probably looking for, but...

I had an abnormal pap smear about 10 years ago.  The OBGYN called me back in for a biopsy which revealed pre-cancerous cells.  We discussed treatment, but then a week later, I lost my job and was out of work without insurance for 8 months or so.  When I went back to the doctor, my pre-cancerous cells were "gone".  I have never had them since.
