Doh!

So I've been packing for months. Everything in a box. I kept out the necessities, but even then they're in (open) boxes in the closet so that they're packed but easy to get it and then I can just lid the boxes on moving day.

Anyway, I have an abundance of flip flops and most of them are packed, but I did keep out plenty to get me through until moving (ya know, one of each color...) well, this morning, I went to put on my white flip flops (the old navy kind) and apparently I have at least 2 pairs of those because what I pulled out of the closet was 2 rights. No lefts to be found. I'm not sure what box the lefts are in but I know they're together somewhere waiting to be reunited with their mates haha.

I will be so glad when we finally get moved and unpacked because I'm missing some things and as soon as I realize it's in a box I get a little more annoyed that today was supposed to be moving day and now it's not for another few weeks Sad

That's funny!  I haven't gotten there yet but I have a bunch of boxes in our storage space, trying to clearly label them so I know what's in them, but they aren't easy to get to.

What are the things that you've packed away and had to get back out?  Maybe I should make sure I keep those out!

So far we're almost done with our de-cluttering but I'll want to keep this in mind if we can sell our house but haven't found one yet and end up living in an apartment for a little bit.

  • That's pretty hilarious Carrie...at least you're ahead of the game and packing. When we moved from our apt, we were too busy painting and cleaning up the house to finish the last set of boxes...I ended up packing the rest of the apartment in 2 days...horribly! I did label everything for which room where I wanted it go in though, and that helped alot!

  • That is funny! Thanks for the visual =)

Mostly it's been clothing items that I've packed that I have wanted. Not really needed, but like I'm looking for a shirt and when I've gone through the closet and the hamper I realize it's in a box. We've got everything labeled and I know where all the boxes are (they're all organized by category) but I'm just too lazy and don't actually need the particular shirt or whatever it is to dig it out.

Here's a few things I've done/am doing to kinda make my life easier when it comes down to actually moving -

bathroom items (and a back-up cause I usually stock up on things like shaving cream, deodorant, lotion etc. so I kept an extra one of everything out aside from what is currently open and in use).

Clothing/shoes - weather appropriate and some cold-ish weather clothes too just in case. And what I've found kind of handy is putting all my folded t-shirts/socks/underwear I still want out into a box and putting it in the bottom of my closet so that it's all packed so I don't have to worry about emptying out my dressers at the last minute before the move but it's still open and I can get to it

I also packed up our video games and movies but kinda like the clothes, kept the boxes open so that we can use them if we want to, but they're all packed and ready to go minus closing up the box.

It isn't super fun to actually live out of boxes, but this way our stuff is packed and pretty organized but when we go to move there won't be a ton of unnecessary last minute items on top of the actual can't do anything but wait until the last minute things.

If you end up in an apartment temporarily before you move into a house get some plastic dishes/cups/silverware that are dishwasher safe. That way you won't have to pack and unpack your kitchen between moves.

And use your best judgment when it comes to the rest of the stuff in your house - pay attention to what you use every day or really often and make sure those are packed where you can easily get to them in case you go into temp. housing and the stuff that you rarely use or you know you could definitely live without between moves pack away.

Thanks!  I may ask you for more advice later, too.  Good luck with the movie, before you know it you'll be unpacking those boxes in your brand new place!

  • Hilarious!  But can I give you serious props for being so on top of everything.  I absolutely despise packing/unpacking, so I envy your motivation. :)
