Ugh, I hate when this happens!

I got out the shredded cheese to make my lunch (quesadilla) and the cheese had mold on it!  UGH :(  It wasnt supposed to expire until October, but we have had it open for a few weeks, guess I will start freezing my cheese.

Re: Ugh, I hate when this happens!

  • I have never had that happened, but maybe I should check my cheese that I have at home to make sure it doesn't have mold on it as we have had it open for a while

The last time we went to Costco, we bought a huge bag of shredded cheese (to save $$).  Im going to have to freeze it to make it keep longer since there is just the 2 of us and all that cheese LOL.

  • that stinks! we buy the huge bags of shredded cheese at costco (i think they're 5 or 8 lb). we eat a ton of cheese! haha

i divvy it out to about a week's worth and freeze other weekly portioned bags. cheese is too expensive to go bad!

Yeah, I do. But I'll say that I freeze a lot of things in plain sandwich bags too and have never had a problem.

  • This happens to us quite a bit. Arek loves his cheese but he FORGETS about it and whenever I buy him some he doesn't eat it and then I go in to find it moldy a couple of months later!!
  • mmm cheeeese.

if it's on a block, cut about 1 inch off and you're good to go. shredded = SOL... here's a good article about diff types of cheeses that are ok to cut the mold off of vs. not.
