Re: *swoon*
They didn't happen to mention if it was coming to Verizon, did they? I've heard mixed things - that it's coming at the end of this month, that it's coming in the fall, that it's not coming until 2012 (which is great because the world is ending and I won't have time to enjoy it).
What's so new and fancy about it?

nope, no mention of verizon.
the phone will be released 6/24 with presales beginning 6/15.
i personally don't think that they will go to verizon, since verizon has the droid. but stranger things have happened and there was certainly one person in the audience that yelled out "switch to verizon!" at one point when steve jobs couldn't get the webpage to load on the iphone (turns out there were so many devices eating up the wifi in the room that he had to ask everyone to turn their devices off and "police each other" so that he could show some new features..it was all said jokingly).
let's see if i can recall some of the new changes.
-totally new design, revamped side buttons. made with titanium and glass. slimmer. a tad heavier.
-better battery (which is KEY. it's the only gripe i have about the iphone).
-apps that run all at once. right now you can't turn on pandora and then go check your email. you can talk on the phone and use an app, but you can't use more than one app. so that'll be kinda neat.
-camera lens on both sides.
-records in HD video. allows you to edit your videos through their imovie app and send it along via email, mms, etc..
-some new thing for gaming purposes, seems kind of like wii technology to an average joe like myself. old technology: when you move in a circle physically nothing changes on the screen. new tech: the game will spin as well. that's the only way i've got to explain it right now. *shrug*
-unified email inbox (one thing i didn't want, but oh well). like BB inboxes.
-higher resolution/pixels for cleaner, brighter, clearer pictures.
-facetalk. which is basically video chatting. but it isn't skype (they have the skype app now though so it doesn't use minutes..for a temporary period of time i think). when you make a call you can hit the video button and the camera turns on and you see yourself, until the other caller picks up and turns their video button on and then you see them. obvi this only works if both callers have the new iphone. my co-irker was making fun of this idea, that it was stupid. and for the most part, it can be. but they are marketing it as a way to talk to loved ones long distance and be able to see what your kid is doing while you are out of town. blahblah. still super cool on the phone!
-um...i forget the rest. there are 9 new aspects that he went over. i highly recommend watching a rerun of the video from the conference. i did other things while listening and watched when he got to something good. it was really interesting.
they also have 3 new huge apps: guitarhero, something that runs farmville and other games and netflix.
i'm such a sucker for new things, so i am salivating over the new phone and wishing we weren't so broke and saving for a house so that i could order it during the presale!
Netflix app!? Farmville app!? I want one.
We're on Verizon right now, I've had really bad luck with AT&T in the past so I wouldn't want to get one with them. Plus right now both our parents have verizon, so we're on their family plans and pay them for the phones monthly much cheaper than if we did it on our own.

see, i had the opposite. i was with verizon and after 2 yrs everything went to crap. i had no service. none in my home. i called 911 and the call dropped. i went absolutely ape ***! verizon said if i purchased some device for $200 it would resolve that issue. needless to say, i wanted to smash the tv every time i saw one of their dead zone commercials! i switched last july and have been so happy ever since!
oh yah, they have their products syncing somehow so that if you use the netflix app, or the ibook app and download something from one of them on one device that you can pick up where you left off on another device (so if you start watching a movie on your itouch and get home you can go to your ipad and finish watching it). i suppose that is nifty if you have 2816574 apple devices!!
DH & i are on a family plan and spend $190/mo for our phones. he has a BB, i have an iphone. i am required to have the $30 data plan, he simply has the $30 data plan bc it is unlimited for the purpose of him checking email on his phone. we each have the measly $5 text plan (which i rarely use...no need when i get email on my phone). i think we have 1400 minutes, which we never touch. we have like 5000 minutes on rollover! i would take us down in the plan, but then we would lose the option to have our A list phone numbers (that don't use minutes regardless of the carrier), so its kind of a catch 22. we don't use minutes to call either of our parents homes, his office, my friends, and all of our family members have at&t cellphones. go figure!

i'm so pumped to find out that the new iphone4 is going to be 199 & 299. maybe i really can get a new phone soon!!!
you know, i wasn't entirely sure what the appeal was until i got my iphone. and now i don't know how i lived without it! it's just so convenient. the apps make my life easier. we were out looking at houses and just driving around so i went to the app store to see if there was an app for the realty agency...and there was. helped us check on things while we were out and driving around. it's just so user friendly.
