Year Old Cake Poll

The first group of ladies have had their anniversaries now, so I want to know how that year old cake tasted (if you froze it and ate it).

We froze ours in a super sealed plastic container. I was petrified it was going to be disgusting, but surprisingly, it was awesome! It was just as good as it was last year. The icing was a little dry, but the cake was great. It wasn't dry at all and didn't taste freezer burnt.

How was everyone's?

Re: Year Old Cake Poll

  • We won't eat ours until this weekend (6/13) but were given a special plastic container for our top tier by the bakery so I'm glad to hear it wasn't horrible.  Our wedding was in my hometown 500 miles away so it would be hard to have them recreate it.

  • Ours is in the freezer still, we wont be eating it till next weekend 6/13.  Our venue wrapped it up for us.  I honestly don't even know how well they wrapped it, I never looked, just put it in the chest freezer and promptly forgot.  I forget what flavor it even is.... I think it's white with raspberry filling :)

On a related note, for those who have eaten their cake already, when did you take it out of the freezer?  I remember reading that you're supposed to let it thaw completely in the fridge, not on the counter.  I'm sure it'll take a few days to defrost.

  • I heard you should take it out 2-3 days before you plan on eating it.

  • We had our cake last night (after watching our wedding video) and it was delicious! Moist and tasty. I moved it out of the freezer to the refrigerator on Thursday and it was perfect.

  • We ate some cake on Saturday and Sunday and it was SOOOO good. It was really moist and tasted surprisingly like I remembered.

  • I loved it!  I had forgotten what my top layer was, it was chocolate chip!  My favorite!

  • Maybe I'm too into cake, but I'm not wary of year-old frozen cake at all.  I can't wait to eat mine!
  • We put ours out Friday evening. It was thawed all the way through.

  • ours was actually really good! Like yours, our icing seemed a little dry, but the cake was still pretty moist, and even the chocolate mousse filling was good. We have the entire top tier, and we only ate one big slice out of it yesterday. So whatever we don't eat up this week will unfortunately have to be thrown out. But it was a fun thing to do on our anniversary. :)

  • our baker made us an anniversary cake but it was small so we got more out of the freezer.. it was still amazing! we still have some left so we will be eating it all week.
  • Ours was pretty good as well.  It was wrapped really well, first in plastic wrap, then in foil and then the whole thing inside a ziploc storage bag.  The buttercream icing was a little gross (but I honestly don't think it was that fantastic to begin with) but the cake and raspberry filling were still pretty good.  With a couple glasses of champagne it was a pretty good dessert Sunday night.
