Re: Kasa, how is RBP going?
Pretty good. I'm about 2/3 of the way through. I'm not loving it, but it's okay.
I don't really care for the author's style in this context. I feel like it's written more like a biography of Rhett Butler and his family/friends, than a novel. It's really lacking the emotion that made GWTW awesome.
It's not a bad book by any means, but kind of disappointing just because I had really high hopes for it.
I definitely know what you mean about the style. It certainly was no GWTW. I did enjoy the deeper look into Rhett's history, though.
Do you feel like it comes across as more "racist" than GWTW? I don't know if that's the right way to describe, it but, I felt like some of the descriptions just felt kind of offensive to me. Perhaps it was because I was listening on audio and there was this Southern white guy doing the accent and singing the songs for the slaves.
I don't think it's any more racist than GWTW. Actually, IMO, I think it might be a little less racist that GWTW, just because GWTW seemed to include more about some of the slaves so there was more of an opportunity to profile them.
I can believe that a white guy trying to do the accents could easily come across as offensive though.
I replied.
Yeah, it must have been because of the reader. Overall, I felt like he was pretty good, but sometimes I would cringe when he was speaking in the voice of some of the characters.
