Anyone renovate lately? Need GC reccomendation

Hi ladies! I live in Brookline and we bought our first home a few years ago- we're looking to renovate our bathroom this summer now that we've finally saved up enough money, and while I would have loved to go the partially DIY route (oversee the project ourselves, do what we can, and bring in professionals- plumbler, eletcrician, etc.- as needed) but since we're a condo, we need a permit from the town, and that requires a licensed contractor to oversee everything.

I have no idea where to start. Obviously I can google someone, but I'd prefer a recommendation. We're the first of our friends to buy, I polled some neighbors, and I'm coming up empty (although I do have a growing list of GCs to avoid, which is disheartening). So even though I don't post a lot here I thought I'd try you ladies. Anyone renovate lately? Preferably in the Boston/metro west area? Would love any and all leads!

Re: Anyone renovate lately? Need GC reccomendation

  • I don't have a GC recommendation, but if you need an electrician, my husband has his master's license and is fully insured. E-mail me at jackie71183 at gmail dot com if you want his info.
  • I don't have any recs but wanted to suggest checking out Angie's List.  It's sort of like Yelp for the home services market, but it's subscription-based so you do have to pay for it.  Might be worth it though if you need to look up several different types of providers.
I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • We used Eddie Pendleton for our kitchen remodel and he was GREAT.  I honestly can't say enough good things about him.  Our bathroom remodel with a different GC was a NIGHTMARE.  I was SO happy we had Eddie do our kitchen.  He showed up on time, kept us informed every step of the way and his finish work was nothing less than perfect.  He was a bit more expensive than other quotes we received but it was totally worth it to have a competent, professional person do the work.  His subcontractors were also great.  His info from Angie's list...I should really write a review for him.

  • Oh ,we are located in Waltham so I don't think Brookline would be out of his service area.
