Re: Father's Day 2010

  • We will probably grill out and just relax. My Dad's birthday is the 25th, so we usually combine the two. Both our Dad's like the show Two and a Half Men, so both sides are getting a few seasons of that on DVD. Our families only live 5 minutes apart, so we will probably all just get together, rather than having to split up the day.
  • Otherwise, I was just at Williams-Sonoma yesterday, and they have some really cool grill and cookout stuff for reasonable prices. I was tempted to get my Dad the smoker box he has talked about for a while, but then I remembered we had the DVD's.
  • I have no idea!

H wants to get FIL a gift card to a Brazilian steakhouse, but I think the closest one to him is about an hour away.  I wish H would just handle it, but I fear that the responsibility will fall on my shoulders.

For my dad...no clue.  He is a doctor and very proud of that, he also likes golf, horses, and outdoorsy stuff.

  • We're spending a lot of money.  We're going to give my FIL the Sunday Ticket Football package for Direct TV.  They already have basic Direct TV service and he's a HUGE Giants fan.  They just can't afford the football package this year, so we're being generous.  I'm really happy we can do this for him, but the numbers side of me thinks it's a lot for a Father's Day gift!

To save time, can you order the gc online and have it sent directly to him?

Depending on how much you want to spend, does he have a golf course he really wants to play but hasn't yet? Maybe you can buy him a round of golf? Otherwise, what about a new outdoorsy gadget? Guys always like gadgets. :)

  • I was thinking about giving my dad a year's worth (or whatever) of Netflix service.  I thought he might enjoy that.

  • We only have FIL to deal with and he's really hard to buy for! He has everything he needs/wants and his only hobby is poker. We'll probably give him a card stuffed with instant tickets. He loves those!

Yeah, we would do that.  The time consuming part is finding the closest one to him.  He is lives about an hour north of Orlando.  There are a ton of Brazilian steakhouses in Orlando, but I wonder if there are any in the few towns that are a bit closer.  Searching that out and deciding which one to buy the GC at is the hard part.

I've done the round of golf thing in the past.  I was thinking about it.  I just need to spend some time thinking about what to get him.

  • I believe we're taking them to a Tigers game, both my dad and my FIL.  We've taken them to a Caps game before but they've both helped a lot with our deck, so we wanted to do something a bit more special with them this year.
  • My H had the good idea to get his dad an Ernie Harwell book or two.

My dad doesn't really read books, so that won't work for him.  I don't know what to get him.  I suppose I should figure that out though.

Last year, we got both of our dads some grilling goodies (sauces, marinades, etc.) from World's Market and they seemed to be a big hit.
