IN Nestie looking for Traverse City Recs
Hi Ladies!
I am an IN nestie, but you were absolutely wonderful suggesting fantastic places to visit on MI's West Coast last summer, so I'm hoping you can help me again!
DH and I are looking to spend 4-5 days in Traverse City in early October. Does anyone have suggestions of where to stay? Ideally we would love to stay in town with a view of the bay. We are open to B & Bs, small inns and non-chain hotels. We are also open to a country B and B if the drive is not more than 15-20 minutes from town.
Any other restaurant or activity suggestions are welcome! We are thinking of spending one day wine tasting, a day hiking and I would love a spa day!
TIA!

If you're interested in hiking, I highly recommend Sleeping Bear Dunes. This web site offers a great description of the different hiking trails available. Have fun!
There was a thread about TC just a couple of days ago.
The hotel I suggested, Grand Traverse Resort, has a pretty awesome spa. I've never had any services there, but it looks fantastic.
Chateau Grand Traverse winery also has a B&B.
Have a great trip!

My mom owns a cottage in a town 17 miles north of Traverse City called Elk Rapids. It is across the street from East Bay and while most of the view of the lake is blocked by trees, you can see the lake on the front porch. PM me if you would like more details.
There is also a B&B inbetween Elk Rapids and TC on US-31 http://www.bbonline.com/mi/countryhermitage/index.html It's on top of a hill overlooking the bay on one side and the rolling farm hills on the other. It would only be about 10 min drive from TC. I'll try to find the name of it.
thank you for the awesome quick responses!!
I am sure I will have more detailed questions as we plan more of our visit, but thank you in the mean time! you GR nesties are fab-o!!
I'm a little late, but the Homestead in Glen Arbor (not that far away) is fantastic too. (We like it better than Grand Traverse, and their spa is AMAZING.) There's an amazing inn across from Chateau Chantal (Tesoro Inn), that I'm dying to check out.
Vineyard-wise, we really like Chateau Chantal, Black Star, Brys Estates, Left Foot Charley, and Bowers Harbor Winery.
Sleeping Bear has great hiking-- the Pyramid Point trail is one my favorites (especially for photos).
If you like Italian, Trattoria Stella in Traverse is very good. Bowers Harbor Inn and Jolly Pumpkin are fun too.
Have a great vacation!
Be sure to check their CVB website. They have some awesome deals on hotels rooms for mid-Oct - November. All sorts of price ranges. I think they post them in mid-August, because I remember looking at them and thinking DH and I should go and then he was laid off in late Aug for a short amount of time, so that nixed the plan.
