I finally bought a foundation brush this weekend. Now, what is the best method of application? I noticed I don't seem to need as much foundation since half of it isn't getting soaked into the sponge. Should I start at the nose and brush outward?
Re: Make-up Lovin Ladies
I think the general consensus is that a brush like this is the best tool for applying liquid foundation:
Less waste and more precise.
I use the Bare Minerals powder foundation and previously a sheer pressed powder. Start with your forehead, then nose, eyes, cheeks, and chin. Round/circular motions. Go easy on the powder - you'll be surprised how much coverage you can get from a just a little.
I feel like it is too streaky when I try to use my fingers or it didn't cover as well. I've always just preferred sponges until I bought my brush this weekend. I'm loving the brush.
generally you're supposed to start around your nose, then do your eyes/under eye circles, forhead, cheeks, etc. start in the middle and work your way out
I generally put a small dollop of foundation on my wrist and dip my brush into it from there... it seems to be more cooperative when it's warmed by my skin
and i actually work backwards from the methods listed here....i cover my cheeks, out to the hairline, and down the jaw line first....and then lightly cover my t-zone.... i can have splotchy skin from time to time (a reddish undertone on my cheeks) and i like the most coverage there
my mom actually sent me a new foundation this week and i LOVE it....merle norman has GREAT foundations for oily skin like mine...
I don't use a brush but I use a wedge. What I do is I put 2 dots on my forehead, and one dot on each cheek, my nose, and my chin. Then I start at my forehead to start blending it in and I go down to my nose and work my way around.
Which MN foundation are you using? I currently use the Luxiva Lasting Foundation but I want to try the Flawless Effect Foundation. I have redness and some acne scarring on my cheeks so I need something that covers it well.
I know you didn't quote me, but I want to suggest the MN Timeless foundation, that's what I use currently It blends in really well and it doesn't look over done. If you have any pigments on your face such as freckles, it really brings them out.
This is what it says on the MN website:
Age-defying liquid makeup that provides medium to full coverage with a luminous finish. Contains SPF 20, Vitamin C and E derivatives and optical diffusers. After application skin appears "lifted" by 44%, skin smoothness is improved by 65% and the appearance of fine lines is reduced by 55%.
It could work for me. If it improves smoothness it might not settle into my acne scars. I will have to check that one out too. Does it stay put well?
i have been using the luxiva (and i like it too, but i don't feel that i can find a perfect shade for my skin tone...but boy does it help with oil!!!!)....but my mom just sent me some of the new flawless effect and it is WONDERFUL....the shade matches my skin perfect...and it controls the oil like the luxiva.....i am in love with it!
and sometimes, i get dry patches on my skin...and i always felt the luxiva was harder to blend over those areas...but the flawless effect blends perfect!!! give it a try for sure!
Generally, yes, but I have oily skin so my makeup tends too wear off by the end of the day anyway. Yes it does make your skin very smooth. I used the compact foundation that they carry all the time until a few years ago I went to a different store than I normally go to and they saleslady recommended the Timeless and I haven't gone back. It doesn't have the cakey look that the compact did.
