Re: poison ivy ladies

  • Lots of Round-up over months/years unless you can find a way to keep your kids and pets out of it. You might call your local extension office or master gardner to see if they have any ideas.

  • You will need to cut the vines growing up trees near the base and apply full strength brush killer to the cut. This should send it down to the roots killing it.  It may take a few applications.  Round Up most likely will not work on the tree since the wine has climbed so high.  Good luck.

This is what I had too, when I bought my house. 30' worth of poison ivy growing in an elm tree.

It took two years and lots of Roundup, but I won. Elm came out of it okay too.

  • Ditto...with several apps of Roundup at the base.  Keep in mind the vines going up the trees will still hold the poisonous oil for a LONG time, so be careful if you try to pull some off...don't ever burn it....it will produce poisonous fumes.

Just got over a case of poison ivy a few weeks ago....must be my thanks for DH and I doing about 7 hours of yard work at my ILs!!  Ha ha.
