It seems like no one can tell me what's wrong and I'm starting to feel like maybe I'm just crazy.
Back story: In high school I started having a lot of sinus issues and got sinus infections atleast 4 times a year. Doctor told me I just have allergies and I got an RX for allergy medication. After countless allergy medication not helping I went to an allergist. They tested me for everything under the sun and the only thing that trigger on me was dust and it was a mild allergy. None the less, I did allergy shots for 2 years, no improvement. So I broke down and went to an ENT. They stuck a scope up my nose, saw nothing. Sent me for a CT scan, everything looked fine. Told me maybe I was having migraines not sinus headaches. But I don't think that would explain the post nasal drip and congestion. (This all has happened over the course of 10 years)
Second problem: My stomach. Also in high school I started having stomach issues but didn't really tell anyone because I was embarassed. By the time I was in college I went and saw my doctor about it and he told me I have IBS. So I started eating better, drinking less, all the stuff they suggested but not much change. I've seen the doctor on an off about it over the last few year finally leading up to the colonoscopy. I had a follow-up appointment with the gastro yesterday in which she told me everything looked normal and she agreed with the IBS diagnosis.
The last issue I've had is fatigue. I am tired all the time even when I get plenty of sleep. I've had blood work done countless time and it always come back normal as well. I eat whole grains, plenty of fruit and veggies, only drink one cup of coffee a day. I don't know. I know I should exercise more but it's hard when you're so tired. I have been making an effort to walk the dogs atleast once a day for 30 minutes.
So I guess I am a perfectly healthy 27 years old who is tired all the time, gets chronic sinus infections, and always need to know where the closest bathroom is I'm starting to lose faith in modern medicine.
If you made it this far, thanks for reading. I know I sound like a whiner and should just be happy I don't have some life threatening illness but it's hard when you just don't feel like yourself. I am going to start food journaling to see if I can find a connect between my symptoms and what I am eating, take probiotics on a regular basis, and continue to work on getting more exercise. Other than that, I don't know what to do.
Re: Frustrated with my body -long vent
That sounds like an awful combo to deal with.
My irl friend had similar stomach and tiredness issues starting when we were younger and it got worse as she got into her 20s. The best the docs have concluded is she has something like ulcerative colitis and spastic bowel. They tried a variety of meds and steroids and now she is definitely more stable in that department, but still has to plan ahead for bathroom trips.
She recently started eating more towards a vegetarian diet and found that alot of the cramps/pain of the GI tract has improved. Some foods are just harder to digest for her.
Hopefully you can find a way to get some relief.

DH has had chronic stomach issues for as long as I've known him. He's had a ton of tests and medications, but they say he's healthy. But, there's definitely something going on. The latest diagnosis is just a "sensitive stomach with IBS." It really frustrates DH because he knows there's something going on, and wants to live without having to deal with his stomach problems, but doesn't know what else to do. I feel frustrated for him, too. So, I just wanted to say I understand how hard it can be. I think a food journal is a fantastic idea, and I hope it helps out.
I hope you're able to get some answers soon!
ETA: Have you tried elimination diets or clean eating? Either might help pinpoint if there's something triggering your issues. Just a thought.
I'm so sorry your having to deal with this. I can understand about the stomach troubles, I have them too and it's annoying. I hope your food diary helps you get some answers.
And I really don't think doctors ever really know what's wrong with you.
My feet have been swelling for about 3 months now, I went a walk-in clinic about a month ago, because I read feet sweeling could mean your kidneys were failing(stupid webMD), But he said my kidneys were fine just to elevate my feet regularly. I go to my family doctor later for the IBS stuff and ask him about the feet swelling and he said I needed to exercise more. So which is it, sit on my butt or not...lol
Anyways I have tried those pro-biotics and they seem to help. They would probably help more if I would take them regularly. I hope they work for you!
wow that was long sorry!!
Thanks for the sympathy and kind words Ladies! It's easy to get down in the dumps about this but it helps to know someone is thinking of you!
Lauren - I have tried elminated gluten and dairy (not at the same time) and there was no difference. The clean diet sounds interesting and not too far off what I eat now. Thanks for the tip!
Ugg, I'm sorry you're having so many persistant health issues. I can completely understand having consistant problems with no medial issues showing and no medication helping. Hopefully some of your new activities will help you to start feeling better, even if only in one area....better than none.
Also, have your doctors considered Crohn's? I had a friend in college with it and your stomach/IBS/fatigue issues seem like they fit.
The did a blood test and the colonoscopy and said both ruled out Crohn.
IBS BLOWS! I hate it. It was amazing during my pregnancy - my constant need to go to the bathroom turned into a "regular once a day" type girl while everyone else in first tri was b!tching about constipation. Constipation for me is only going once a day!
But I digress. Modern medicine isn't always the answer. Not to be all crunchy, but one thing that helped a lot for me was a combo of hynpotherapy (sounds scarier than it is, its just basically way relaxed therapy) and psychotherapy (same session) to talk about my stressors. Sometimes our body just holds on to things because its how we deal with stress.
I will get off my hippie pedestal now. I loved hypnotherapy - it really transformed how I felt. I need to start going again.
I would also recommend finding a really good general practitioner that you like and trust and have a good physical and annual blood work. The problem with seeing specialists is that they tend to look for "zebras" in their field, rather than taking ALL the things going on with you finding out if its more of a whole body thing rather than one system or another.
HTH!
Rachel - This made me LOL because it's so true! Maybe I need to tell DH he needs to knock me up! J/K! Thanks for the suggestion about the therapy. They just put a new hypnotherapy place down the street from us. I'll have to look into it.
Breanne - My PCP is the one who has been sending me to all the specialist. I don't think he knows what to do with me. I've been going to him since I was in high school but maybe it's time for a change.
Thank to everyone for all your advice and support. You Ladies are wonderful!
