visiting new orleans on Thurs-Tues, need sightseeing tips

Hi Everyone,

The hubby and I will be visiting for the first time this week and I would like to get suggesstions on places to see. The most important thing to me is to see the mansions. I know this city has tons of mansions, but I am really looking for that wow factor.Does anyone has suggesstions for home to see?

The other places on my list are Cafe Du Monde, swamp tour, oak alley plantation, ghost and cemetary tours, french and garden districts, jackson square and st louis cathedral and the botanical gardens. This doesn't seem like enough to keep us occupied for the 4 days, so any suggestions for other activities are welcome.

  • Take the street car down from the downtown area to the Uptown/Garden district.  You can ride the street car down for 1.25 one way and view ALL of the old New Orleans Mansions down historic St Charles street.  You can ride down to the Audubon Park area where the Audubon zoo is located.  Also my personal favorite restaurant, Jacquimos is on Oak Street.  It's a local favorite....Basically a hole in the wall, but the best place in the city in my opinion!
