Welcome home baby gift?

Hi Ladies,

A friend of mine from grad school just had a baby (on June 1). I'm going over tomorrow to meet him for the first time, and I would kind of like to bring a gift.

What would be a good "welcome home/to the world" gift to bring? I was thinking a little outfit or something, but I'm not sure...I *could* try and make something, but I don't know what (and it would have to be in one day).

Ideas?!?!

Thanks.

  • Clothes...a cute onsie or outfit, maybe even from the school she went to.
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

I was thinking clothes...but I'm having a hard time guessing what size he is! Should I just go bigger (like, get a 6-9 mo.?) knowing he'll grow into it and knowing they probably have a lot of smaller stuff?

I actually already bought her the school onesie -- that was part of her gift for the surprise shower I threw her. For the other shower, I bought them their bathtub and a bunch of bath goodies.

  • Did you get a birth announcement or info with his weight? I'd go with 3 mos, personally.

He weighed about 8 pounds and he seems pretty long...but no, she didn't share the vitals online. He's only been home since last Thursday.

  • At 8 lbs, he's in NB sizes. 3 mos would be the next size up. Or 3-6 if they're in a range.

  • hmm... how about framing the baby's name (to hang in the nursery).

Use your Scrapbooking skills, I'm sure you would some up with something super cute! Maybe using different patterns/colors/fonts for each letter. Or incorporating elements of the baby's nursery theme?

I can see if I can find a few examples to show what I'm talking about...

  • What about taking an outfit/clothes/blanket, etc and bringing some sort of food?  Muffins, a casserole to be baked, container of pulled chicken/pork with buns, etc.  I'm sure they are pretty busy right now and could use a home cooked meal.  I agree with going bigger on clothes 3 months or 3-6 months would be good.  Is there anything left on her baby registry?

I think food is a great idea, and would probably help them out the most.

  • Food is the best idea! If you don't want to cook, you could also do a GC to a place they like that delivers.

  • New mom weighing in here...please bring them food or a gc to somewhere that delivers like pp's said. I can't tell you how wonderful it was to have people bring us food. Only 3 people did and it was great!

As for clothes, go bigger 3 months or 3-6 months.

  • Food! Hands down best idea. If you decide to go with an oufit I would recommend 6-9 mo. I have 3 baskets of 0-3 and 3-6 month stuff because everyone goes with 3-6 with the idea that it will be a little bigger. Keep in mind that if you get 6-9 months that he will most likely fit into it in Nov or Dec.

  • Ditto the food times 10! I wish someone would bring me food. It is so hard to find the time to cook healthy meals with a newborn. While clothes are okay, I bet the food would be more appreciated.
