Random Poll: PBJs

MH is working late tonight, so I enjoyed a PBJ on an English muffin for dinner tonight....yum!  Which led me to wonder......

1.  What's your favorite brand of peanut butter?  Crunchy or smooth?

2.  Favorite brand/flavor of jelly/jam?

3.  Favorite bread for a PBJ (or any other sandwich)?

4.  Do you spread the peanut butter on both sides of bread, or just one?

5.  Any other unusual sandwiches you like to make with either peanut butter or jelly?

  • 1.  What's your favorite brand of peanut butter?  Crunchy or smooth?        I like Trader Joe's Organic Smooth 2.  Favorite brand/flavor of jelly/jam?       I usually use a brand that's made locally near my hometown in Wisconsin.  I like their seedless red raspberry or strawberry-rhubarb.  If I run out of that and aren't going home again for a while, I use Trader Joe's Reduced Sugar Raspberry Preserves. 3.  Favorite bread for a PBJ (or any other sandwich)?      I like soft bread for a PBJ, usually some sort of soft whole wheat.   Tonight I used a whole wheat English muffin, and it was fantastic!4.  Do you spread the peanut butter on both sides of bread, or just one?      Usually just one side, then the jelly on the other....LOTS of both!  :) 5.  Any other unusual sandwiches you like to make with either peanut butter or jelly?       Don't judge, this is actually NOT a pregnancy thing.  I've eaten it my whole life, but....Peanut Butter and Pickle.  Seriously, don't judge until you've tried it!  The salty/sour combo tastes wonderful!

  • 1.  What's your favorite brand of peanut butter?  Crunchy or smooth? I can't remember what brand it is...it's the only natural (no sugar added) PB I can find here. And crunchy! Definitely crunchy. Smile Although that said, I bought some extra crunchy PB here once and it was actually TOO crunchy - you couldn't spread it!

    2.  Favorite brand/flavor of jelly/jam? Ooooh this is tough! Generally I like the berry jams - mostly blackberry and strawberry. But every once in a while I have a huge craving for grape, which is a problem because I can't find it in the stores here.

    3.  Favorite bread for a PBJ (or any other sandwich)? Thick cut white bread for PBJs. I like whole grain for everything else, but for some reason I prefer white with my PBJ.

    4.  Do you spread the peanut butter on both sides of bread, or just one? Just one side - and the jelly then has to be spread on the other slice of bread, not on top of the peanut butter. That said, if I have honey I always put it on top of the PB, not on the other piece of bread. Weird, eh?

    5.  Any other unusual sandwiches you like to make with either peanut butter or jelly?

imagelelekay: Don't judge, this is actually NOT a pregnancy thing.  I've eaten it my whole life, but....Peanut Butter and Pickle.  Seriously, don't judge until you've tried it!  The salty/sour combo tastes wonderful!

OMG!!! I'm a peanut butter and pickle fan too! I like it with both dill and bread and butter pickles. I know it sounds weird and incredibly disgusting but it's REALLY good! And it's totally not a pregnancy thing - I've eaten them since I was about 13. (The main character in Sue Grafton's novels eats them and I had to try it lol - and I was pleasantly surprised!)

Oh, and at some point I'd like to try a fluffernutter sandwich, too - my mom never let us have anything like that (pure sugar) growing up, so I'm really curious about them.

  • imagelelekay:

OMG, strawberry rhubarb jam? I NEED this. It's one of my favorite kinds of pie! I wonder if I could make it when rhubarb is back in the stores...my mom used to do a lot of canning and preserve making when I was a kid so I've done jams before, but it's been a while lol.

Yay for PBP!!!  I'm strictly a kosher dill girl, though!  :)

My mom used to make strawberry-rhubarb jam when I was little.  She doesn't anymore, but this local jam I use is a close second!

  • 1.  What's your favorite brand of peanut butter?  Crunchy or smooth?       Skippy Honey Roasted, chunky :)  Or Chunky Almond Butter from Henry's
    2.  Favorite brand/flavor of jelly/jam?       Strawberry or Hawaiian Sun Strawberry Guava.  YUMM!!!
    3.  Favorite bread for a PBJ (or any other sandwich)?      Sliced  Hawaiian Bread, has an added sweetness and it's very soft.
    4.  Do you spread the peanut butter on both sides of bread, or just one?      I agree I put PB on one and Jelly on the other, but lots on both :)
    5.  Any other unusual sandwiches you like to make with either peanut butter or jelly?      Not really, but I've always been curious about adding bananas.  I saw on Food Network that there's a place in NY that sells PB&J sandwiches,  and you can have several different combos, like with marshmallows, or bacon.  I want to go there!!! :)

Not really, but I've always been curious about adding bananas.

PB&Bs aren't bad, but I don't like the slimy/squishy texture of the bananas with the PB. Then again, although I like the flavor of bananas I don't really like the texture much anyway so it may just be me lol.

  • 1.  What's your favorite brand of peanut butter?  Crunchy or smooth?  Not a big PB fan.  If I DO buy it, it's smooth.  Which is odd 'cause crunchy was the ONLY kind in my book when I was growing up.

    2.  Favorite brand/flavor of jelly/jam?  Raspberry, hands down.

    3.  Favorite bread for a PBJ (or any other sandwich)?  Whole wheat

    4.  Do you spread the peanut butter on both sides of bread, or just one?  Hmmm...it's been years since I've had PB&J but I vote for both.

    5.  Any other unusual sandwiches you like to make with either peanut butter or jelly? No....it's rare that I have PB or jelly in the house.

  • My 123 is boring... any organic brand of PB & organic strawberry J on organic bread. We have San Juan Island bread here (don't think it is organic). They have a grain bread with sunflower seeds. Love the sunflower seeds.

    4.  Do you spread the peanut butter on both sides of bread, or just one?  One for PB. One for J.

    5.  Any other unusual sandwiches you like to make with either peanut butter or jelly? YUM! This brings back memories. I have food reactions now, so they are just memories (boohoo). One of the best things EVER is an open face sandwich with peanut butter with marshmallow cream and m&ms melted in a toaster oven. When I was little, they had a brand of PB called Koogle. One of the flavors was cinnamon. Every now and then, I'll have a slice of bread with PB and cinnamon just to feel like a kid again.

    1.  What's your favorite brand of peanut butter?  Crunchy or smooth?

Don't really have a favorite brand, but I tend to buy Jiffy or Skippy. Definitely crunchy though!

    2.  Favorite brand/flavor of jelly/jam?

    Smuckers Strawberry.

    3.  Favorite bread for a PBJ (or any other sandwich)?

Either white or wheat is good with me! I also like using English muffins too!

    4.  Do you spread the peanut butter on both sides of bread, or just one?

One side of the bread. And then jelly on the other slice. Then put them together.

    5.  Any other unusual sandwiches you like to make with either peanut butter or jelly?

Hm, nope. Although I went through a period of time in college where I'd just eat jelly straight out of the jar =)

  • 1.  No favorite brand but smooth all the way!  2. Again no favorite brand, but I'm simple, I love strawberry.3.  Wheat because it's healthier (haha) and it doesn't get stuck in behind my teeth as much.4.  Just one.5.  I grew up with PB and Marshmellow Fluff sandwiches.... I remember them being so delicious!!!
  • 1.  What's your favorite brand of peanut butter?  Crunchy or smooth?  Trader Joe's organic, no salt added, smooth.  I love that it only has a single ingredient (peanuts!) and doesn't separate like a lot of the other natural pb's.  MH is a die-hard crunchy fan, which i won't stand for, so we always have 2 different jars of PB in the house - he eats his, I eat mine, we're all happy. Smile

    2.  Favorite brand/flavor of jelly/jam?  I don't have a favorite brand - I pretty much only get jam from farmer's markets or from friends who can their own.  Definitely jam (with fruit bits!) and not jelly.  In terms of what fruit, like them all, the more interesting combos the better Wink

    3.  Favorite bread for a PBJ (or any other sandwich)?  No preference, really.  We usually have some sort of wheat or grain-y bread in the house.

    4.  Do you spread the peanut butter on both sides of bread, or just one? just one.  and *never* with jelly Wink  I eat my sandwiches open-faced - either 2 slices, each with PB, or 1 slice with PB and 1 slice with jam.  I don't like PB and J together Smile  Only close-faced if it's PB&B(&honey - see below)

    5.  Any other unusual sandwiches you like to make with either peanut butter or jelly?

PB, banana, and honey is the best!  PB on one side, banana on the other, honey on top of either (but not both - that's too much).

Peanut Butter & Co - I'm not actually a huge fan of their PB's, actually, though I can't remember what it was I didn't like about them. They have lots of different flavors, with chocolate, cinnamon, chipotle, etc.  PB&bacon (and something else - I think banana, and possibly even honey) was supposedly one of Elvis' favorite sandwiches, so they have one on the menu called "the elvis"

eta: oh, I think i found their PB's to be too oily (like a lot of natural PB is, IMO), and too salty.  But i grew up on low-salt PB, so i can't eat normal PB at all - just tastes like salt to me!

  • 1.  What's your favorite brand of peanut butter?  Crunchy or smooth?

I usually get one of the natural crunchy ones...no particular brand

    2.  Favorite brand/flavor of jelly/jam? smuckers spreadable fruit...strawberry

    3.  Favorite bread for a PBJ (or any other sandwich)?  whichever wheat or multi-grain I have in the pantry

    4.  Do you spread the peanut butter on both sides of bread, or just one? one for pb, one for jelly

    5.  Any other unusual sandwiches you like to make with either peanut butter or jelly?  not necessarily related to pb&j, but another spreadable nut, I really love nutella.  Just by itself or with some pretzels, or omg, in a crepe with strawberries & bananas!!

  • 1. What's your favorite brand of peanut butter?  Crunchy or smooth?

Skippy, and I like it smooth baby!

    2.  Favorite brand/flavor of jelly/jam?

I love Knott's boysenberry or red raspberry, yummers!

     3.  Favorite bread for a PBJ (or any other sandwich)?

I love buttermilk bread for my PBJ's!

    4.  Do you spread the peanut butter on both sides of bread, or just one? one side for pb, one for jelly

    5.  Any other unusual sandwiches you like to make with either peanut butter or jelly?

I love flour tortilla heated really well on the stove and then spread pb on half and jelly on the other then fold and enjoy!  The hot melty gooeyness is so freaking good!  My son used to really enjoy pb on lightly toasted bread with mini marshmellows.

Not a sandwich, but pb mixed with powdered sugar, rolled into small balls and dipped in melted choc chips is divine!

  • 1.  What's your favorite brand of peanut butter?  Crunchy or smooth? The last two jars we got were Skippy Natural pb (smooth).  It was yummy!  I used to prefer crunchy but lately I've been loving smooth.

    2.  Favorite brand/flavor of jelly/jam?  No favorite brand but I love strawberry jam or preserves.  Yum!

    3.  Favorite bread for a PBJ (or any other sandwich)?  Japanese-style thick cut white bread or multi-grain.

    4.  Do you spread the peanut butter on both sides of bread, or just one?  Just one.  If there's too much pb, it ruins the balance between that and the bread.  Since I love bread, I want to be able to still taste the bread!

    5.  Any other unusual sandwiches you like to make with either peanut butter or jelly? No, I'm boring and just like my sandwiches plain.

This.  For me, it's way too smooshy with the peanut butter AND bananas.  John made one for me when we went to South Carolina for the holidays one year and I didn't like it.  If it was the only thing I could have and had to make it work, I'd probably toast the bread and/or use crunchy peanut butter so that there's more contrast between the textures in my mouth.

I'd forgotten until now, but I've actually tried peanut butter and bacon! I made it at home one day. It wasn't bad, but not as good as I thought it would be, either.

Also, re PB&B - TALK TO THE HAND, WOMAN. Wink
