Gulf visit update
Just wanted to let you guys know that I really enjoyed going down there (evern for a 3 1/2 hr drive for only 1 1/2 hrs of orientation). Everyone was nice and upbeat and had my same sick sense of humor that you have to have in this field. They don't have that many animals right now, but Louisiana is getting slammed. Its really encouraging to know that the way we do things at the Center are similar to the things that the BIGTIME rehabbers do. I think once its starts picking up and they call for volunteers I might go down and help on my off days every other week. DH and I need to discuss this (the cost of gas and a 1 night hotel stay) and I know its gonna wear me down fast but I HAVE to do something. When they do call for help, the Center will be down 2 people at a time for 2 weeks. They did get a Gull in while we were doing the orientation, but I didn't get to help or anything 
. I also saw some of the Pelicans that were in the aviaries. And our Center is probably going to receive some birds when things get really busy and they need longterm housing.
Its really encouraging tho. They definately know what they're doing. IBRRC and Tri-State are THEBEST. They're fully funded thru BP which means they cannot accept donations. So if you feel need to help in some way, donate to your local nonprofit wildlife rehabbers! Especially the ones that are helping with this disaster. With us you can designate funding specifically to help pay for the staff and volunteers to help. We must pay out of pocket AND hire a parttime person to take over for us while we're gone.
