Peace out Big 12...well, Nebraska for now.
Just saw on ESPN that Nebraska's going to agree to go Big 10. Which will probably lead to six teams (Texas schools + Oklahoma schools + Colorado or Baylor) going Pac-10.
Thoughts? I think I'm still digesting it. Peace out Big 12.

Re: Peace out Big 12...well, Nebraska for now.
I've only known the Big 12, too. This whole situation developed super fast. I'm not liking it.
I guess if six teams move to the Pac-10, that's pretty much all of the Big 12 South, but swap out Colorado for Baylor...so that won't look much different for us. Just the fact that there won't be a Big 12 anymore is depressing.
I'm irritated that the conference is breaking down. I'm irritated that the Kansas schools are pretty much gonna be left to dry (and Iowa State) and could wind up in a sub-par conference because the other conferences are taking the strongest football programs the Big 12 has to offer. Missouri could be left out in the cold, too, if Big 10 opts for Notre Dame or a Big East team.
I'm really interested to hear what the Oklahoma sportscasters have to say about this tomorrow...
Mixed feelings on my end, but I think this was an elaborate orchestrasted scheme for both Nebraska and Texas to get what they wanted, and both schools had the pawns in place to make it happen. Even back in when the B12 was coming together 14 years ago, NU was looking at the BIG 10 and Texas was looking at the PAC10. It was a bunch of politics and tradition that ended up forming the B12, but over the years the North division has always had it's gripes, so it was an unhappy marriage for almost the entire life of the conference.
This just paves the way for the "super conferences" to be created, where eventually only the top teams will get exposure and a playoff scenario will most likely replace the BCS Seclections. But it's going to be very messy before that happens, and it's going to knock many teams down several pegs in the process. It's College Football Armageddon, and only the strong "helmet" teams will most likely survive, but we are about 10 to 12 years away from seeing the results.
Totally agree. I definitely think super conferences and playoffs are in our future.
I'm sad to see it go down like this, but I think there's always been unrest in the Big XII. It wasn't meant to withstand the test of time, IMO. I'm sad because I truly love the rivalries that were developed in the Big XII, but the Big 10 is definitely greener pastures for Nebraska. And not just competition-wise, but academically as well.
I'm also ticked that my drive time just got twice as long for away games.
There was a good hatred a'brewing between huskers and horns these past few years, with so many nail biting finishes to our recent matchups. It's a shame that rivalry will discontinue as quick as it started up.
Hope all of you husker fans have fun in the snow stadiums while we longhorns enjoy the sunny stadiums of the PAC conference.
I wasn't too attached to north teams, but if the south teams go with the horns to the PAC then the rivalries I truly cared about will still exist, and that's all I can ask for as a fan. I just don't particularly like change in general when it comes to CFB, the tradition and pageantry is one of the top draws of this sport. The more you start tampering with the tradition, rivalry match ups, and conference loyalty, the more it feels as stale and forced as the NFL. That's the part that makes me upset about this whole ordeal.
Although I totally don't mind the idea of a playoff on the horizon, it's just going to be a complete wreck of a transition to get there, and many schools/teams/fans are probably going to get butthurt along the way.
Yup - saw this earlier. I'm sure the rest of the schools will follow after that.
I just can't imagine anything other than the Big 12, but if most of the South schools (except for Baylor, who looks like they're being left out since Colorado will be going Pac-10) go, it won't be that big of a shift.
The next couple of years are gonna be super interesting once the dust settles. I'm sure the conference shifts won't be able to go through until like, 2012, which means the Big 12 will play each other for a couple more years. Hm...
This cracked me up! Just another day in Nebraska!
We're not kidding when we sing There is No Place like Nebraska. We'll all stick together, in all kinds of weather, for dear old Nebraska U!
I was just thinking this... Just another day in Husker Nation.
I'm also finding it ironic that Colorado jumped ship first.
Maybe now the Texas media will shift some of the blame to them!
Have fun being eaten alive in a new conference.
This seriously sucks here, the two Kansas teams are being left out to dry with no conference to go to.

You really think OSU and PSU are going to be that much tougher than Texas and Oklahoma? I say no.
I think Kansas and KState might have some luck if they join up with the Mountain West. They might be a little more competitive, and the Mountain West might get the automatic BSC bid from the soon to be obliterated Big XII.
Meh. I'm mourning the Big XII still, I just don't get why it's ending. Sure, money money money, but still. This was the strongest conference, IMO.

It sucks that the Big 12 is pretty much toast, and I'm already sick of hearing about it. Earlier, I heard that Colorado, OU, OSU, Texas, A&M and Tech would go Pac-10. Nebraska would go Big Ten, and Missouri may, too.
NOW, I'm hearing that Colorado and OSU will go Pac-10, Texas and A&M are petitioning to go to the Big Ten, and OU wants into the SEC. No one wants Missouri, the Texas pact to stay together and the Oklahoma pact to stay together has fallen apart, and it's all giving me a headache.
This sucks. Why Big 12? Why?
I guess the Texas/aTm story was coming out of KC, and there was some major source on Nebraska radio just a bit ago saying it's bs and no way aTm and Texas want in the Big 10.
I'd rather have OU come with us, but you know, pipe dream and all!
That's what they're saying down here...that the KC story is BS since they're the only ones talking about it, and there's no way OU would leave OSU (or Texas) and that the Texas schools (minus Baylor) would split like that.
I should probably quit following this until it gets sorted out.
This is exactly what I'm doing. I read somewhere that KU was in talks with 2 conferences but K-State isn't? I don't know... too much speculation and it's heartbreaking.

Everything is a mess right now. Aggies want to go to SEC, UT wants them to follow them like puppy dogs (or stay in the new B12 which has 10 teams now) and there's apparently options on the table at all three conferences for UT (SEC, Big Teneleven, and PAC).
The issue is what A&M is going to do, and which package will give UT the most lucrative deal with the Longhorn Sports Network that they are trying to get started. Apparently the PAC 10 and Big Teneleven will not grant an "all rights" exclusion for such a network, so this is sticking in the UT AD's craw since they really want to have their own network.
Yes, I wish UT would be independent like ND and get all the special priveleges, but it appears God has already chosen his team.
I am following it all like a soap opera, and it does make my head spin, but I fear the B12 is as good as toast. In some ways this is good for the evolution of the sport (if it opens the gates to a potential play-off), but in other ways it's very detrimental (breaking up certain rivalries and some of the smaller schools getting left out in the dumps).
Orangebloods says UT will stay in the Big XII (but I am SO rolling my eyes at Dan Beebe's last ditch effort to get everyone to stay, I STILL think the deal is very UT heavy and if I were the Big XII North I'd be flipping Dan Beebe the bird -- but they're too desperate to do that!). ESPN says no way the Big XII will survive.
I'm kind of just sitting back and caring too much. I should be focusing on our new conference instead of caring where everyone else ends up.
Sounds like a good plan.
And of course it's UT centric, if we keep the B12, or whatever's left, still alive, then we can get our network with full rights, which is what the other conference won't offer. It won't work, but it is a funny last ditch attempt. Of course it favors the longhorns, the B12 has alway been good to us and we have pretty much gotten everything we wanted since the conferences formation so why would the last tweaks be any different?
Texas and Nebraska will be fine, whatever happens, they are strong programs that will always be in demand. It's the little guys like Baylor, Iowa State, and Kansas that I feel sorry for. And how much would the Huskers hate it if UT accepts a bid to join the Big Teneleven! Who knows what the next few months will bring? This is the most intriguing off season, and frankly I'm kind of pleased to be having so many football discussions in JUNE!
