Inland Empire CSA & Farmers Markets

So Kat and Diana were talking about this today, and it seems really cool!  It is a CSA- Community Supported Agriculture.  Supporting local business and getting a heck of a deal on locally grown and farmed produce! Have any of you tried this?

We were also talking about Farmers Markets- do you go to any local FMs? Which one(s)?

Re: Inland Empire CSA & Farmers Markets

  • I haven't tried that one but I love farmers markets. I used to go to the on ein redlands when I was in school it is great, I also frequented the one in upland, san dimas and Laverne. Now that I am in corona I do not know where there is one close.
  • I always loved Market Night in Redlands... too far away now, plus I work thursday evenings :(  I hear Temecula's FM is too crowded and that really kills the appeal of a nice leisurely stroll through the FM vendors.

  • We go to the Riverside farmer's market downtown every Saturday.  We have also used a CSA before, but the name escapes me at the moment.  It was $22/share, and we got a TON of stuff.  We got more for our money using the CSA than going to the farmer's market - the downside is that you take what they give you; you don't get to pick it out.

Both are EXCELLENT ways to support local farmers and a very wonderful way to contribute to the green movement.  I do not buy produce in the store anymore, unless it's somewhere like Clark's.

  • We sometimes go to the Farmers Market in Riverside on Saturdays. But we haven't been recently.

  • I don't have experience with a CSA, but I do get organic fruits and veggies delivered to me through this http://www.farmfreshtoyou.com/index.php. I am on the plan where I get a delivery every other week and it has been great. I love getting fresh fruit an veggies. If anyone is interested let me know, I have a code to get $5 off your first shipment. Email me: sherthebear at gmail.com, I am not on the boards very much.
  • Oooh thanks for the info!

  • Excuse my ignorance as this may be a really dumb question, but are all sellers at farmer's markets growing organic? I mean just because they are local doesn't mean they are organic right? How do you know?

I promise my logic makes sense in my head ;)
