Road Trip, Passing through Georgia.
Hi: I am doing a short road trip and will be driving through Georgia towards Tennessee on I-75 N for 10 or so hours. We want to visit some touristy ?road trippy? stuff (giant balls of string, chickens who play tic tac toe?.) any one know any funny little stops we could make or any cool restaurants to stop at?
I have never been out of the airport so I dont know what is around.
Re: Road Trip, Passing through Georgia.
Perry, GA is the "reading capital of the world." At least, that's what their billboard says! You'll pass it only if you're coming from Florida, because it's way south. I can't remember what exit. You could also visit "Babyland General" in Cleveland, GA where all the Cabbage Patch babies are born. Total cheese.
I like this website, roadsideamerica, to find fun places along the way when we travel.
Where in TN will you be visiting?
There's always World of Coke and the GA Aquarium, but I don't think I'd call them road-trip friendly. The Varsity is a famous Atlanta restaurant too, but umm... I don't know if I'd want to hit the road after a meal there, lol.
Cordele, GA is known as the Watermelon Capital and it's on 75.
Warner Robins, GA has an Air Force Museum that's pretty interesting if you like planes.
Macon has Indian Mounds, Cannonball House, and Rose Hill Cemetery where Duane Allman of the Allman Brothers is buried.
You could hop off of 75 North when passing through Marietta and eat at the Big Chicken. It is a KFC with a HUGE mechanical chicken on the side of the building.
When we pass by it with our GPS on it even has "Big Chicken" printed on the map as a point of interest.
Also in Ashburn is a statue of a giant cow. It's in the parking lot of the Chevron/Dairy Queen right off of I75. It's just a cow, next to the parking lot. I have pictures of DH trying to milk it. Good times.
Thank you! I was about to get insulted. If you're going to be catching some random I-75 sights, then the Big Chicken is a must.
I happen to own a Big Chicken ornament. JealousE?

Call me Kat =^..^=
KAT I am soooo jealous! where did you get that? I need to send one to my ILs.
I'm almost positive it came from one of the craft fairs or specialty-type shops in Marietta. It a laquered metalic and so shiny!
Check out the Marietta Square nearer to Christmas time. I'm sure they will be sold again!

If you like the Allman Borthers and have a little time, you can also visit the house where they lived in Macon. It's a museum now and just opened to the public last Decmeber.

Another possibility is Lane Southern Orchards in Fort Valley, a peach/pecan/strawberry farm. It's off exit 142 (sign says Housers Mill Rd - St Hwy. 96) in the central part of GA. The store has a lot of cool stuff, and there's a quick-service cafe with good sandwiches. Also very good peach and butter pecan ice cream, wonderful peach cobbler and a whole lot of other goodies I haven't tried but I'm sure are great. They also offer farm tours if you have time.
