Last Day of School Poll

Today is the last day of school for my students. One of my favorite parts about my job is today. I still get that excitement I had when I was 12. In honor of it being the "last day" : What was your favorite part of the last day of school as a child?

Re: Last Day of School Poll

  • Mmm... I was a dork and was always excited to buy my Summer Reading books & start reading them. My E.S. has Summer reading requirements from grades 3-8.

One of my favorite things about Summer in general when I was a kid were slumber parties during the week! The mother of one of my best friends was a SAHM during the Summer (she worked at a preschool & got the summer off) so we could always have big slumber parties at her house anytime. Those were always fun! :)

  • So jealous...I want a last day of school!  Our last day of school was only 1.5 hours long.  Basically you just went and picked up your report cards and sat in your classroom.  It was always fun to sign and flip through everyone's yearbooks :)  Ahh to be a kid again!
  • I loved how our neighborhood had constant activity during the summers - I lived in a cul de sac and many neighbors took down their fences when they went bad instead of replacing them b/c we all played in all of the yards anyway. We'd play 4 square, basketball, baseball, hide n seek at night, and anything really. Often in the evenings the adults would congregate somewhere and talk while we were all running around :-)

  • The last day of school was always the best b/c if the weather was nice, I'd always go in my friends' Vito and enzo's pool! We looked forward to it every year because it was like out very own kick off to summer. Their dad would barbecue for us and their mom would hang with us in the yard :) wow, I sound like such a greaseball - who really grows up with neighbors named Vito and Enzo...

haha! I always did the same on the last day of school w/ my friends Summer & Hollyn. I guess it's greaseballs for you & hippys for me. Hehe. My elementary school was really small- 1 class for each grade, so on the day after the last day of school my mom would let all the girls in the class spend the night at our house, and all the boys would spend the night at Scott tarpley's house. we'd have a huge party during the with the whole class, then the boys & girls would split up. My mom & her Bff would sneak us over at night to tp the boys. Is it weird I have a strange desire to tp someone's house now?

  • This sounds stupid, but when I was in middle school there was always a 'paper fight' on the bus the last day.  Looking back on it, I now feel bad for the bus driver who had to clean it all up!
  • We were allowed to spray shaving cream all over our desks and "finger paint" in the shaving cream.

Apparently it does something to help them clean the desks or something?? I always thought they were just being nice to us but I guess they were really putting us to work! :)
