Re: where to get a snow cone?

  • I know it's not close, but next time you're downtown, the best snowcones around here are on Barton Springs Rd across from Palmer Auditorium.  So good!
  • I like the ones at the stand at 51st and Airport.

I was going to suggest this place, too - we drove past it but didn't try it.  the line was super long though!

there's also a stand at the HEB plus in leander.  super helpful, I know. :/

  • Coincidentally, tasting snow cones around the city to find a favorite is on my Best Summer Ever: Project 2010 list!

The north locations on my list are Casey's New Orleans Snowballs (which is more north central than actual north, IMO) and the snow cone place on Far West Blvd, in the strip shopping center with the Post Office.  (The Far West place has some picnic tables and chairs, it's in the corner of the parking lot closest to Far West and I think the cross street is Wood Hollow.)

  • OH!  I do remember seeing a stand in the HEB shopping center in RR on 620 - this was a year ago though, who knows if it's there anymore.

Is that the same place that used to be on S. Lamar near P.Terry's (kinda the same parking lot)? That was my FAVORITE and I didn't see them there the last time I was in Austin. Luckily a we have a place sorta near my office that does them similarly.  HAVE to get them with cream - the BEST.

i was thinking of this one, too.  they used to sell tamales, and i went shopping at that heb earlier this week with tamales on the brain only to load up my car, turn around, and see that it sells roasted corn and snow cones now.  poo.

  • I third Casey's! (51st and Airport) Real shaved ice snow cones, not those crappy hard ice pellets.
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • Maybe the cupcake stand at 1825 and Central Commerce?  I've never been but I know they have tons of different 'snacks'.

  • I saw a sign for a place on Pflugerville Parkway today (I think that's the road, the one that is under major construction).  It was in the strip center with a vet, about halfway between Railroad and Heatherwilde, on the north side.
  • There is one at McNeil and 183 in the shopping center where Big Lots is.

  • There is an awesome shaved ice stand if you exit mcneil (Going north) and stay on th service road.  It's a little bit down, but in an abandoned gas station parking lot (They have their own little trailor).  They're really good and the guy is SUPER nice.  DH and him hit it off and I had to eat my snow cone listening them chat it up last week...  but it was worth it.  delish.
