Re: Brooklyn Preschools?
I live in Cobble Hill but don't have any children yet so I can't be of much help, other than to say you should check out the urban baby website (www.urbanbaby.com), there are TONS of threads on there about schooling options for children in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
Also, you may find the park slope parents website (http://www.parkslopeparents.com/) helpful as well. Even though it is obviously for Park Slope, they have a good amount of info about Cobble Hill / Brooklyn Heights area as well.
just found this list on the PSP website, keep in mind that they are in various locations in brooklyn:

I love Cobble Hill. We basically live on the border of Cobble Hill and Brooklyn Heights (we live on Henry Street, 2 blocks south of Atlantic Ave, by LICH hospital). It is a lovely neighborhood with everything you could need, especially for young families. On the weekends I rarely want to or need to go into Manhattan. If I didn't work in the city, I'd probably be pretty content to never leave Brooklyn!
The commute isn't bad at all, Park Slope is further into Brooklyn, however I have heard that if you live near an express train (I want to say maybe the N train?) that the commute from the slope isn't much worse than Brooklyn Heights / Cobble Hill (although I personally prefer my neighborhood to the slope, a lot of people love it there).
I am not sure how much money you will save, to be honest. I have never lived in Manhattan, but I get the impression that housing prices and rent are not much different, however you do tend to get more SPACE for your money.
I do think that every day items such as groceries, restaurants, etc. do tend to be a little cheaper than Manhattan.
If you have any more questions in the future, I'm happy to help!
