Woo-hoo! 1 hr & 15 min of waiting + 4 min with a Social Security worker = me finally getting my name change process started!

Excited to have that part down, now on to DL! It's exciting to officially take my DH's last name
Re: Name Changing: Step 1
oh my goodness
misty, what office did you go to?
i have to go to the one here in charlotte.....one reason i haven't done it yet!! they don't open until 9 and close at 4.
That's awful you had such a long wait! (I was in and out in 10 minutes at SS office). It's been a fun process - I got my new license on Tuesday and have been changing it all week - credit cards, work, the bank this morning...
DH is just thrilled to see my new last name - OUR last name now! - on everything. It means so much to him and I love it.
Holy cow! I was in and out in 5 minutes! I went to the courthous and social security office both on my lunch hour one day.
I was surprised at how quickly I was in and out of SS. I got the whole thing done in about a half hour. Now, the DMV on the other hand, took me about an hour and a half.
It is exciting though. Just wait till you get your first piece of mail with your new name on it!
Amanda...I went to the Hickory office and they have the same hours, 9-4. I pulled in the parking lot 3 minutes after nine and went in about 5 after and my number was 43, the waiting room was full, and there were only three workers having to field all of us. I'm off every Friday so I didn't mind waiting, plus it'll be so rewarding to get my new SS card and see my new last name on it!
I assumed it would be bad because I've been trying to call for months to get some thing at work changed for our clients and they will NEVER answer the phone, you always get a busy signal. I thought if I got there as soon as they were open I'd miss the crowd, but the crowd NEVER got smaller as I was waiting.
I went to the SS office in Raleigh, and waited almost 2 hours. It was interesting to see the girls you knew were changing their names. I sat next to a girl that got married on the 30th and we talked almost the whole time. It would be nice if someone let us know that we would be there for that long, can't use our cell phones and bring something to read!!!
I also sat at the DMV for over 2 hours, and almost didn't get seen. Amanda and Misty, are they mailing you your new licenses or are you getting them there? The Cary one is mailing them out....weird.
You've heard what I've done, not what I've been through.
If you were in my shoes, you'd fall the first step."
