Jweat*

We don't have our hotel or anything booked yet. The event we're attending is at the Washington State Convention & Trade Center, so we'll be staying near it. The event is from the 29 - 31 of October. The 31st we'll be flying out though. I'm not sure if we will be coming up before the convention starts or not. I'd think the 27th is the earliest we'd be in though since we'll be traveling though Cali and will be visiting friends in San Fran.

Any suggestions would be great. I want go to the Space Needle if it's close enough, and I heard about Kurrent Restaurant & Ice Bar...do you know anything about it? Other than that, we just have to be careful of the places we go because of DH. We can't go anywhere that has peanuts or uses peanut oil nor can we go to places that are heavily seafood oriented. Most likely DH won't be eating anywhere we go and he will just buy groceries to eat, but he cannot even be around the peanuts or shellfish when I eat (and I must try local places!). We're most interested in the exceptional cafes of the area. DH knows of one, but that's it.

  • If your arrival date is a bit flexible, I can probably help you with a hotel discount! The 27th is a Wednesday, which is a busy night in the city (business travelers), but if you come in from Thursday-Sunday, a bunch of our Marriott hotels in the area have Friends and Family discounts available. Due to your DH's allergy and food issues, I think a Residence Inn property would meet your needs best. They have kitchens with full-sized refrigerators, stoves, dishes, utensils, etc. There is one in Bellevue that has a $79 rate for 10/28-10/31. It is 8 1/2 miles from Seattle, but it's a pretty quick drive, and the advantage is that you would not have to pay for parking at the hotel (normally $20-$25 per night, in Seattle), if you have a rental car. RIs also include a full breakfast buffet in the rate.

If you're interested in booking one of the hotels, go to www.marriott.com, put in Seattle, your dates, and then click the + next to the box that says Special Rates and Awards, then put MMF in the Corporate/Promotional Code box, and look for any rates that pop up that say "Friends and Family Rate". You can book online, and then let me know and I will email you a discount form. Even if you are not 100% sure that you want to use it, I recommend booking now, because you can always cancel up to the day of arrival without a penalty, and the discounts don't stay available forever.

The Space Needle is a great place to visit, and the EMP (Experience Music Project) museum at the base of the Needle is supposed to be awesome. I would recommend Pike Place Market, but the seafood exposure might be too much for your DH to deal with. Unfortunately, most of our local spots are heavily geared toward seafood. If you do stay in Bellevue, El Gaucho is a fabulous local steak house there, and Mediterranean Kitchen is supposed to be excellent as well, as far as non-seafood places go.  In Seattle, you can't go wrong with any of the Tom Douglas restaurants (Dahlia, Etta's (although this one is more seafoody), Lola, Palace Kitchen, Serious Pie (pizza). I haven't been able to try them yet, but they are local faves. HTH!

  • Thanks for all the tips! I am a planner, so I am hoping to have everything booked within the next 2 weeks so I can have it out of my mind. I'll let you know if we go with the Marriot.

We have lots of travel ideas in mind, and are searching for the cheapest. We currently plan to fly into Santa Ana then fly up to San Fransisco. From San Fran, we plan on catching a train to Seatle. Dh knows about the train business, not me so I have no clue if it's close to the area we need to be or if we'll need a car. But the plan is to not have a car and stay in walking distance of the convention center and then catch a cab to the airport if possible. But we are looking for the cheapest option, so I'm currently searching everything.
