Need color ideas for hallway
Hello ladies,
I am trying to figure out a color to paint my hallway! The two main rooms off of the hallway are my living room,a light mossy green, and my dining room, a light taupe-y brown. The hallway is pretty dark, and right now is painted this horrible mustard color (in high gloss!!) that I hate. I have wanted to paint it ever since we moved in, and haven't gotten around to it because I can't pick a color. What would you suggest? It gets a lot of traffic, so an off-white wouldn't work well, but it's also dark, so nothing too dark. Any suggestions? Help!
Re: Need color ideas for hallway
Does the hallway connect to 1 or both of the rooms? Could you go with a color to match? Maybe it won't be exact but a shade of green or taupe that accent them nicely. I
'm really bad at colors, I'm always so afraid they will end up looking horrible but all of the colors that we have chosen for our house so far have worked great (we have a light green LR and DR and a tan kitchen).
I'm not too great with colors either but my mom is so I always have her come over when I'm considering a new color. One thing she does is tape the paint chip to the wall and leave it there for a while. It is good to see the room in all different light because sometimes a color will look nice in daylight but not in other light. Also, my aunt has patches of paint up on her wall because some places give you small cans to try out at home. She's thinking of doing her kitchen and has all these little patches painted on her wall. Looks funny for a while but does help. Good luck!
We did this for our basement. I just bought 4 samples to help us decide.
We have cream in all our hallways, staircase, kitchen, etc. - all the high traffic areas. It's not a problem as long as you pick a washable paint. We used Sherwin Williams Duration Home, which is washable even in the matte finish. Works like a charm.
I didn't want to do colors in those common areas because our house has some pretty bold jewel tone carpets (lots of emerald green) that we haven't replaced yet. Competing (or even coordinating) color wasn't really going to be a winning plan for the most part.
If you really want to go darker, what about a gray with green or blue undertones?
